I installed LXDE today to test my System script to make sure it was picking it up correctly

OMFG how fast is LXDE

everything was instant compared to Gnome 3

its seriously making me think about going to LXDE and leaving Gnome

Hey Haggis. Have you ever tried XFCE? How does LXDE compare to it in terms of performance? I'm just curious because I'm running XFCE on my old machine now and looking for alternatives. Thanks! :)

I agree. LXDE does feel really fast. Its still not my favorite desktop environment though. I love the extreme customization and low resource usage of Openbox, and the MATE user experience is near perfection IMHO.

Xfce in my experience is a little more heavy on the resources than LXDE-

but not by much-

The order - Resource Hogg's

E-17 (enlightenment) {this one all depends on how much OPEN GL your video card supports)

KDE

then

XFCE

LXDE

Flux Box

That is my experience

LXDE is light and it's great if that is what you want, but it also lacks features of the heavier desktops.

yeah agree

openbox is installed too so will give that a try although I think I tried it in archbang

will be keeping gnome as it runs fine and is what's am used to lol
