Starting to get annoyed with my choices in PC games

Recommended Posts

All I ever play are Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Skyrim. There's nothing else I will play. Well, I have played other games like Borderlands 1&2, Black Ops 1&2 and a few others. But I hate them all. I need to broaden my horizon on games.

But any games I play must include a dev console that is accessible without hacks or cracks. They have to be similar in aspect to what I already play and the console must be easy access. Because, let's face it, there are times when we all need to use "tgm" at some point in a game. Or even add a few items when we are deathly low on health.

Anyways, if anyone knows any other games I might like that include a console that accepts gamebryo commands, please let me know.

Thanx.

If you like oblivion and skyrim, you'll like this.

Edit: The graphics look like crap in the video , but it's beautiful with all visuals turned up. Be sure to get the steam version of this for the best experience.

This is a video with good graphics:

Don't get upset, but I want to point something out.

You start out saying you're really annoyed with your own choices in games, are sick of the same thing, and want to broaden your horizons.

However, you state that you want people to recommend something similar to what you already play, and that functions the way your current games do.

So the first step is this:

Which of those scenarios do you wish to accomplish?

@ Tyler: Tried that before and hated it.

Well, I think it's just that I am more bored with the 4 games I play. I need more games to play. But yes, they do need to still have the Gamebryo engine with an easily accessible console. At least until RE 6 for PC hits.

Mass Effect in easiest settings? It's not got a console, but they're pretty easy games, and pretty entertaining if you're looking for an RPG. Mass Effect 3 also has a 'Story Mode' which is basically god mode.

Half-Life 2 + Episodes maybe? Not using Gameembryo but the developer console can be enabled from within the settings menu and has any number of commands to play with. Great games too.

STALKER series also has a dev console IIRC, but I've never used it.They'd probably be up your alley if you're looking for something in a vaguely similar vein to Fallout.

wouldn't know what to suggest i think you have bad taste in games..

Skyrim really ? lol

years ago i played lots and loved gaming.

in 2013 i'm bored and don't bother anymore.. PC gaming sucks

and console gaming is worse (for kids and noobs)

so get used to it i would be willing to bet you will be gaming less and less

as you become jaded.. thinking its more of the same olf crap rehashed ..and not very well at that

Will try the STALKER series out. Thanx.

Everyone has their opinions about games and gaming in general. Just because you have become a hater towards gaming, doesn't mean I or others will.

Do you like puzzel/horror games? Check out Anastesia: The Dark Decent and the Penumbra Series. Can't tell you how many times I jumped and about crapped myself. Be sure to play on the hardest difficulty for best experience. :) How about Portal?

Tried Portal 1 & 2. Didn't like them. But I will give Anastesia: The Dark Decent a shot and see how it is. Thanx.

What with being on the console more than the PC, I can honestly say that I don't need the console (in the game, that is).

From the games listed it looks like you're in to SPRPGs, big open worlds but you're the only player; everyone else is an NPC.

For big open worlds in a single player environment, perhaps look at Far Cry 3? That's supposed to be quite epic.

The GTA series as well would be worth looking in to as well, same genre if slightly different gameplay.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is better than the Penumbra series in my opinion, but I don't know if either would be your thing from what you've described.

I'm not sure if you're being too restrictive in what you're looking for in a game, or too vague. Some more information about what exactly it is you like about those games that you dislike about BO2 and Borderlands would be helpful. :)

MMO's? :

Dungeons and Dagons Online?

Lord of the Rings Online?

Star Trek Online?

MechWarrior Online?

Elder Scrolls Online? (Not out yet but still an option for later)

All of them are free to play, but you can buy cool stuff from an in game store.

---

Dead Space Series?

Dirt 2?

Red Faction Series?

Decent Series? (Be sure to google for high res texture mods)

Galaxy on Fire 2? It's availible for Mac, PC, iOS and Android. It's really fun on an iPad--never tried it on any other platform.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the "open world". I also like the fact the I can use 3rd person and 1st person views and toggle back and forth whenever I want. I also like being able to use game mods when I want. I quit using them awhile back. But I still want that option. I also want the option of easily using a cheat console whenever I want. I also do not like multi-player online games. Single-player only that are installed on my PC. Using Steam is fine.

Crysis

Crysis Warhead

Batman Arkham Asylum

Batman Arkham City

Dishonored

FarCry 3

Hard Reset

Mirror's Edge

The Walking Dead (all episodes)

Portal

Portal 2

Might give a couple of those a shot. Thank you.

Try something totally different like Civ 5 or C&C (but not generals, that's terrible)

I have Civ 5. But I really didn't like it. C&C tried it and gave it to my nephew.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the "open world".

We've already established that I can't help with a game that comes with a console, as I've never focused on the idea of having one (my personal opinion is that it defeats the purpose of the game, but I can appreciate that it's an individual thing), but going with the idea of open worlds, I would suggest looking in to Far Cry 3 (I'm going to be looking in to it for exactly that reason - open world), Dishonoured, and maybe even Dead Island (although if memory serves Dead Island got horrible reviews for the most part).

The Assassin's Creed series is also good and feels quite open-world, so maybe look in to those if you haven't already?

lo tec, if you do check out stalker, be sure to install the Complete Mod for each game. the mod improves graphics and fixes A LOT of bugs in the games

You want to broaden your horizon on games but have a really strict set of rules.

Nowadays games don't allow access to the dev console nor are they very moddable.

If you like the Gamebryo engine, get Morrowind GOTY. That should be on steam at a decent price too.

Oh damn I know what you mean. I too have been getting bored with just about anything I play, guess I am getting old or something but seems to me often that all games today are the same. If your into epic story games though I would suggest you play the mass effect games, I felt bored with Skyrim after playing it right after finishing Mass Effect 3.

Will give Far Cry 3 a try. I have Dead Island and it's DLCs, player through it twice and that was enough. I actually have Dishonored and Assassin's Creed 3. But I haven't even played them yet. I will install them and see what happens.

Thanx Brando. Will make sure I do that.

I have MW GoTY. Just can't get it installed on Win8. :(

Well, I decided to get Afterfall: Insanity. No console that I know of. Only 3rd person view I think and I'm already stuck. I'm at the part where I have to equalize the temps and I can't get it done. Meh!

After playing games for almost 18 years on the PC, I can agree with you on some levels but there are a few great games out there which you've yet to enjoy. Tribes: Ascendance is particularly good, and although has a few noobs, it's the same as the old days of Quake/QW where you'd always get the odd one.

Planetside 2 is worth checking out as well, I've not done myself but a few people have mentioned it. Mass Effect series is definitely worth a go, and I think it's worth you spending a little bit at the end of year sale in Steam where they'll be pretty cheap. I find that series quite similar in some ways to Fallout NV.

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair

    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
