Yes.. it is a little dirty, and I need to put my subwoofer on the ground.. and I need to put my case cover on.. oh well.

At 1600 X 1200 I need a magnifying glass to see those

imperfect: oh, they look nice. i bet the sound nicer ;)

i cleaned my desk so here's some pics of my little "knighthawk" system, named after the stealth bomber cuz its quiet. not cuz bombing things is cool or anything  :ninja:

the case is an antec sonata if anyone likes it. their little slogan is "hear the silence" which is fairly accurate. not too expensive either.

The Matrix has you...

Shiny... "speed holes" that spell Antec... lol :p

Inards, the truth comes out. Messy.

I once saw a Sonata case with the cables like all hidden away somehow.

Lastly, Mr Legoman and Scuzzy my 3rd mouse, posing next to a winamp remote (hey gotta use that serial port)

Ive got the same case as Enigma-Penguin but its not modded in any way (his looks waaayyy cooler) BTW Enigma wasnt that case a shear joy to work with ? It was the easyest build for a computer I have ever had (They will have to pry that case from my cold dead fingers)

heheh yeah it went really well... the only case ive ever been able to move a still installed h20 system with ^_^

but its still got a long way to go .. painting the fans with blue uv paint and the case will be white soon ^_^

Aren't those 120mm fans kind of loud?

Accaulty no. I have the same case and it is close to dead silent. The sonata is an awesome case. I just chaged the power/hd leds on mine to match it better. Bule and red...mmmm..better then the boring green and orange..ill take a pic later

Well, you nearly have the same setup as me. Dual LCD screen (although i think yours are 17" if i'm not mistaken? mine are 19" both samsung as well). Same keyboard and mouse :)

But the books....you gotta throw them, aren't your LCDs adjustable so you can get em higher with out putting the books ?

if you want to compare here is mine

I will be adding the pics of my new case when i get it (Thermaltake XASER III V2000A)

Spacey - Very nice desktop.. I need to make my machine quieter.. how did you get yours quiet? Does it run cool?

I wish I could afford LCD's.. as I have a huge CRT and I have to turn to the side everytime... damn.

-lieb39

its just the case is quiet because it runs big 120mm fans at low voltage, i bought a big copper heatsink on which i run a really cheap and quiet fan. i think the power supply might be the loudest thing, i might also replace it with a cheap fan. the fans are panaflo L1A, they're only 9 bucks, not everything good costs an arm. it runs pretty cool, its overclocked a little bit and it idles at 35 deg and goes up to about 44 deg after gaming for awhile.

shark, my lcds are actually little 15"s, i didn't have the money nor deskspace to get anything bigger :p it woulda been nice to get the 19" because the border is smaller. very nice. but hey, i'm thankful for what i got. actually they can't adjust any higher :p haha... i love the ghettoness of books. if i could find something black or a piece of wood it would probably look nicer but details :) do you have more pics of your setup? looks sweet.

the 15" are pretty cheap now lieb39. you don't necessarily need to buy ones that support dvi either. i'm sure u could get decent 15" analog for $400 cdn with tax.

oh, and for all those pmsgs i'm getting about my screensaver...

Matrix Screensaver

heh, cool. did you just pickup some blue leds from an electronics store? is it hard to swap? heh it'd be nice to put in some blue :) i like blue...

I ordered them offline because the case needs 3mm leds and I couldnt find them in my area. So if you need help I could point you to an online store. Also they were a sinch to install just pull out the others and slide in the new ones (with some minor cutting) no soder needed ;)

eh what can i say i'm an audiophyle - this pic is of my main desktop - primarily a DAW (digital audio workstation) but i also have a second dual boot os for the casual stuff. p4 3 ghz 2 gb ram 500gb hard drive space, radeon 9600, two 19" crts and uhm my laptop. The speakers are Mackie HR824's i love em that's why they're in here as well as a pair in the studio. I mainly go back over audio in this room and use it as a point to record clips as they come to my head. Anyway here's the pic - yes it's kinda messy but hey it's a *play room so to speak* lolworkstation.jpg

Yes i have more pics, but i'm waiting for my new case to come :) I will post more then, it's a Thermaltake Xaser III V2000A :D

Well 2 15" are better than one :) and it's a less expensive setup, each of my samsung cost me around 700$ (aouch  ) but oh well, life is short :)

    • It is silly there is no simple way to check whether this profile has been activated. CFRs are normal, but trying to even hide the fact if it's on / off seems silly, especially for something so user-facing. Surely Microsoft is "proud" of their engineering efforts on this one and ought to display it somwhere in the GUI.
    • Many Linux distros are not known for excellent battery life, so I'm not sure that is the best example. A more apt example may be Apple, but Apple's CPUs are simply far more efficient than Intel & AMD at single-threaded tasks like these, so "boosting" is not as power-hungry and less heat-inducing. Not to mention Apple will hardly engage P-cores for basic UI tasks; they use a pretty complicated QoS scheme to only activate P-cores for more serious workloads like HTML / JS execution or decompression or application launch. Microsoft is (smartly) doing it for launch, but also for UI tasks, which is the more nonsensical part: why ... do Windows 11's UIs need modern CPUs to boost? It should load so quickly that there's not even time for the CPU to boost.
    • I've not seen any controlled testing and, judging by Microsoft's mentality, within a year, they'll have added so much more bloat, it'll undo any perceptible latency benefit and we'll have boosted the CPU clocks for nothing.
    • It depends: heat soak is a thing. Initially on cold boot-up, the heatsinks & heatpipes are at ambient temp. After heatsinks & heatpipes warm up (through normal usage), they don't immediately cool to ambient temp when the load goes away. So their baseline is higher and the trigger point for fans is much less stress. Add a few more CPU spikes → it's too hot to stay at the same fan RPM → fans get triggered to start up up much sooner / get triggered to ramp much more quickly.
    • Can LibreOffice just shut up and worry about themselves and stop comparing themselves? Do we see Microsoft complaining about euro office?
