ever thought that some people might actually need a powerfull rig? me for example, I have my machine now (specs on sig) and am already thinking of a second one! computer Aided Design pulls hard on your pocket! A lot of designer would agree when I say that sometimes we work with 1 picture of over 300mb! In my system, it takes like 45 segs to open! in my old one, a pic like that would open in like 13 minutes!

So, some people do have lots of money, but some just need to spend it!

PD: dual monitors make our lives so much easier!

Mine isn't for show I can assure you of that. My rig is used and abused by heavy amounts of gaming up to 20 hours a day. There is a reason I have this setup and it isn't to show off because there are better than this anyway. If you are going to show off, make sure it's for the 5 minutes that yours *might* be the best.

Picked it up at a local computer fair.

VA Linux doesn't sell hardware anymore, of course.

Still, it's a sweet system, it spends its time doing massively parallel chemistry work for research.

Good buy for $100 too.

Only problem with it, if you could call it that, is that it didn't come with a riser card, doesn't have onboard sound, and the memory for it is ECC/registered SDRAM, which is harder to find/a tad more expensive.

edit: Holy mushrooms, you live in CT! So do I!

And I got it from a CT fair!

Maybe they'll sweep around to an area near you sometime

Just curious, any reason you don't have the VapoChill and the 520W PSU in the A64 system?

mikeboy, u think 19" LCD is bad? well, my 17" CRT was the cheapest available :D then again, my budget was $1300AUS for a gaming rig :s 2 screens is awesome, ive seen it used (just gave a 8mb PCI Savage4 to a friend so he could do it :D) but one big one is not so good... 19" is good, but 24" should be used as a TV :D and for the cost of a 24" u could get like 3 19"s. thats a lot more real estate.

I strongly disagree about how having multiple monitors is good.

in 1994, microsoft introduced [bold] the task bar [/bold]. This clever tool lets us hide and show our open windows with ease. This tool keeps us from having to have multiple screens.

Think about it, when you are watching a video, gaming, surfing, working, etc.. , you are limited to one screen. Wouldn't you rather it be one giant screen?

Just curious, any reason you don't have the VapoChill and the 520W PSU in the A64 system?

Well... Wasnt sure that i could "assemble" the cpu scoket kit with the cpu/motherboard. So since i did have my old 1700+ lying around i just brought a socket a kit and the aspire to be sure that the system got the power it needed. Didnt want to destroy my a64....

Thats the reason

Now im going to buy some new ram, a new disk and later a new gfx for it...

true ik 47, but remember that the taskbar can get congested easily.

big screen real estate (dell 2004fp) is awesome for gaming and some tasking, but i had three monitors hooked up at one time, and it truley defines the term multi tasking. for example, im into web design, and nothing beat having photoshop open in one window, notepad in another, and the website your working on in another.

so if your not gonna be into hardcore multi tasking and are looking for the best monitor for gaming and media, i totally agree with ik 47 that huge screen real estate is the way to go, but if you need the most functional display for multi tasking, nothing beats having multiple monitors!

    • yeah it seems to be Edge only. The dialog buttons work as expected in Chrome and Firefox. The phone is using Android 16 (OneUI 8.5) and Edge version  149.0.4022.53
    • I'm not aware of this issue, but to help the other guys.  What version of Android are you using? Did you try a different browser? To see if Edge is the issue here.
    • I agree when are you going to read this (really poor BTW) article? Here is a better article so you actually know what is going on and answers questions you had in other comments --> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/05/speed-boosting-low-latency-profile-is-one-of-the-improvements-coming-to-windows-11/ It is unclear if one will be able to disable the new profile at this point but I am not seeing any reason why one would.
