Also added som extra 1024mb to the system :) So now it has 1536mb pc3200 :D (1024 before, 512mb+2x256mb) - Now 3x512mb :)

Took my old 2x256mb and added to my vapochill system...

I'm gonna post mine soon once my camera makes its way back from Germany on Tuesday ;)

I just got my new desk and chair and even the monitor and tower look small on it and its 20.1" TFT with a big midi tower :pinch:

I've got my speaker system dotted around the room to with my TV/Hi-Fi/PS2 exactly opposite where the pillow on my bed is. Thing is, I don't get hardly any reception :(

Other thing thats a bummer is: My desk doesn't match the rest of my furniture, its light beech and the rest is a darker beech.

Apple bidet, anyone?

Yeah it'd fit right in with their other white cases. I've been saying Apple stuff looks like it belongs in a bathroom for a while.

Very nice vaio, and im I have noticed that alot of laptop users keep there factory stickers on them. Just a random thing I have been seeing. If it was me I would rip them off immediatly...

I pulled the Centrino and XP stickers off my thinkpad pretty quick. They start looking bad once they start getting worn from typing.

And about the 20" vs 24" comment. Don't remember your username. Why? If he got the 20" for the 400 dollar sale price then it wouldn't make much sense. If he paid 750 we can all laugh at him. What's funnier is the fact you paid almost twice as much for the same panel in that Apple and you could have gotten a 2405 for a little more.

Same panel, different backlight and case. I couldn't stand having one of those Dell monitors next to my PowerBook. They're not bad, but I wouldn't want one. ;)

Apple 20" Cinema Displays might have the same panel as the Dell 2005fpw, however the aesthetics of the ACD are of a much higher caliber than the Ultrasharp line. Think about it for a second. Would you rather have black on gray plastic with a dell logo, or brushed aluminum with gloss sides and touch activated buttons?

I would choose the ACDs aesthetics anyday over the ultrasharp style, however the ultrasharps are better in value, as they are significantly cheaper.

I personally, am planning to purchase a 2405FPW and a 10.6" Sony Vaio Laptop with either a Mac Mini, an iBook 12" or a Powerbook 15". (can't decide, but prob the iBook)

there is nothing like a ACD, hes just jealous

Nope just pointing out that you can get a 24" flat panel for a little more than a 20".

The aesthetics are something you have to figure out for yourself and your budget. See the 2005fpw thread and you'll see I'm not totally against the Apple display. If I bought it though I'd feel like I overpayed. Just my opinion.

There is a head to head on Anandtech's site I believe. Apparently as long as you get a good 2005fpw (and you should at some point if you're shipped a bad one.) then there isn't much difference given the case and gimicky buttons. (Don't get me wrong it's cool but I could see it getting annoying if not implemented correctly. I'd imagine accidentally turning off the display by brushing the side or something.) The main differences I think was the Dell was brighter with better whites and the apple had better darks.

Well, here's my room.. at least for another month. Hopefully my next room's a bit bigger :(

My desk... note the penny jar - that's my video card upgrade fund :p

room1.jpg

Closer view of my desk, complete with ATI Remote Wonder and PS2 controller for use with emulators

room2.jpg

My guitars (Ibanez RG7620 7-string, Hamer CX2) and my DIY sub, which needs a LOT of work

room3.jpg

Close view of my guitars and my Digitech RP2000 effects processor, which outputs to the line-in on my Audigy

room4.jpg

My beater.. Samick "Professional", which I'd probably get rid of, but it was my first guitar so I can't for sentimental reasons

room5.jpg

Teh Linux Box, tucked away in the closet.. no, it's not actually a Packard Bell.. I just liked the compact case

ok rite, i waz jus wonderin how do you get thoze nice big iconz for the desktop screen??

It looks like IconX/DesktopX which are Stardock products. Those work pretty well, you can also use AveDesk to give your desktop big icons, though the Stardock products include more options and effects (for desktop icons).

    • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • I still use HexChat! Not really as ancient as the 1994 AutoCAD above my post, but I have never found anything better to replace it. Yes we still operate an IRC server https://www.neowin.net/irc/ 😛
    • At work we still have a couple of people that use a version of AutoCAD LT purchased in 1994. This predates Windows 95 and works fine on versions of Windows up to XP. Its long since run in an locked down isolated XP VM, accessible via RDP. I did install LibreCAD for them, however they said it was just too different to get to grips with. In all fairness one of them is now 75 and the other is almost 60.
    • On my music making (non internet) PC Sony Acid Pro 7.0 Adobe Audition 2015 Korg Legacy Collection Windows 7 SP1
    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
