Mr. Farrar, It appears from your signature that you are investing in a new Computing Machine.

My question is, why are you spending so much money on a 20" ACD ($1K CAN), when you can get a monitor thats 4 inches bigger, has 1920*1200 rather than just 1680*1050, 500cd/m^2 rather than 250cd/m^2, 12ms response rather than 16ms, 1000:1 contrast rather than just 400:1, Analog Inputs (Component, S-Video and Composite) and Media Card Reader for only a few dollars ($399 CAN) more?

The Twin 6800 Ultras you are going to buy will certainly shine better through a bigger display with a higher resoloution, as well as one with a better image quality.

I have already saved and put aside my money for the 2405FPW, and am just waiting for someone to buy my current machine.

Even Apple agrees with me. Big Ideas need a big canvas. Get the Bigger Screen.

Well I like the look of the ACD and the size is just perfect for me. I have already purchased the case HERE and the mother board HERE and I am going with the best and nices parts I can find. For me the ACD meets that with its drop dead georgous looks, in MY opinion it blows the dell out of the water and will look great next to my case. The resolution is fine for me as its what I have always used and half life 2 will look great on it. And as for the money that really does not bother me because it is such a good looking monitor and has very nice features like the usb hub on the bottom right lip and the touch buttons. These qualitys are what make it the best choice for ME and thats why I am going with it even tho I will have to save and wait a little longer as opposed to if I got the dell.

btw the 3800+ is on the way (around thursday) next comes a gig of ram (have yet totaly picked it out but I think im going with the kingston) followed by about a month of saving for the 2 damn 6800s but it will be worth it to have SLI

well, in that case, congratulations on your new rig, and best of luck building that thing.

don't get me wrong, the ACDs are very good displays, and are even better if they suit your taste. If they lowered the prices a bit, I would get one instead of the dell.

Slightly updated workstation. New printer, moved my bass amps in, moved some things around.

any comments on my workstation? i have tried to make it my little media centre. Slowly doing it, but my broken 7.1 speakers have held me back and my TV

Yeah I know I think of the price different alot and I may end up with a dell if one of those coupon codes that make it 400 bucks shows up again because this is becoming a very costly project so who knows. But I would like a ACD and I hope (like in the sig) to have saved and have enoguh left over because monitor is coming last. Also check the comment I left in your pc for sale thread, I have done it with an hp and a vaio (hp was money back vaio was bought a laptop and sold on ebay) it worked out very well for me.

Overview

Here's an overview of everything.

main_sm.jpg

Main

Here you'll see my Creative 5.1 5200 speakers, my HP Deskjet 932c printer, my 15" Dell monitor, my Epson scanner, and my tower, which is 2.6Ghz Northwood, 768MB RAM, 40GB HD, 120GB, ATI All-in-Wonder 9000 Pro.

laptop_sm.jpg

Laptop

Here's my laptop. It's a 1.6Ghz Centrino package. Includes 2200BG wireless card, 384MB RAM, 30GB HD, and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM.

extracomputers_sm.jpg

Extra Computers

Nothing too special. The black computer I'm trying to sell for a buddy. It's 2.53Ghz P4 with 512MB RAM. It's connected to my system via KVM. Next, is my poker and server computer. It's 533Mhz Celeron, 224MB RAM (32+64+128), and 13GB harddrive. That weird monitor on the left, is my uninstalled security camera system. Fun to spy on other people. ;)

keyboard_sm.jpg

Keyboard Area

Just my keyboard area. On the left, is the sound and bass control for my speakers, my keyboard, and my Identix fingerprint scanner.

kvm_router_sm.jpg

Behind Monitor

Under the joystick is my KVM, then my BEFCMU10 modem with a 6600/768 connection, and my Linksys WRT54G router. Also, that silver thing is a Dell DJ Dock.

subwoofer_power_sm.jpg

Subwoofer, Power

And last, my subwoofer, and my two APC battery backups.

The PowerBook is driving the ACD. The Mac mini is just there, being awesome. There's a LaCie 320GB Firewire800 HD on the far-right.

I need to get a new desk and mouse pad, the ACD barely fits under that desk (it cleared it by 2mm). :pinch:

The mouse pad just looks ugly next to the aluminum stuff.

I see you just love your MAC dont ya?

It only sucks when people throw away things that are better than the stuff you have.

My dad paid $250 to have his old car disposed of. The thing is, that it was a good condition car, and better than at least 15% of the cars that I see everyday

Damn man, Huezo is making me extremely envious. Making me feel like splurging on the PB 15", 23" ACD and the Cyan iPod Mini rather than the 12" iBook, 2405FPW and the Red iRiver H10

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
    • I guess we are done since you refuse to read my comment you replied to or my other comment in another thread you were also a part of here.
    • I hate Slack, but Teams is much worse - maybe they've already optimized it, but it was a huge slog the last time I've checked about half a year ago. I miss my Skype.
