There is something definitely not right with ML. Even the Apps store opens faster and works better with SL. I no longer see lag on the UI or in the apps store.

The App Store is just a website inside a wrapper so I kinda wonder how that would even be possible.

On Lion and Snow Leopard before I installed my SSD in my MacBook, the App Store LAAGGGGGEEED!! I don't get it either. There isn't a whole lot going on there other than downloading from their website. The whole interface just lagged. After I installed the SSD, App Store was extremely snappy.

Everywhere I am reading OS X users going to Snow Leopard and avoiding Lion and Mountain Lion. It's like everyone going back to XP. :p

(Whether or not that's true - ) Keep in mind that Snow Leopard is actually only about 3 years old compared to the decade-old XP. ;)

Actually it'd be like saying going back to the first iteration of Mac OS X.

I'm really hoping the same will be true on my new iMac with Fusion Drive.

If you have a major piece of software that is only stable in Snow Leopard, then you probably stayed in Snow Leopard or went back to it. Lion was a pretty big over haul of an update that broke some software compatibility.

For instance, there is a really popular raster image editor called Pixelmator (its on the App Store now). It is on 2.x now. When it was 1.6 on Snow Leopard it brought an incredible amount of extensions to be used in the Automator App. You could do really cool stuff with your images by making automations, attaching those to smart folders and dropping images inside.

Lion broke features, and the developers never responded. Instead I think they are probably going a different route in v2. Probably because they don't want to have to do another rewrite of their scripting extensions to keep their users on the latest OS.

I love Automator, however it should be advertised more and also used more by devs.

You can do some awesome stuff with it, although often it's smarter to just use Apple Script which is a hell load of awesomeness of a scripting language.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
