On the third anniversary of the release of Angry Birds, Rovio Entertainment has announced that Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on as producer of the upcoming Angry Birds movie. David Maisel, former Chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of Iron Man, will be executive producer of the 3D CG-animated feature film, coming to theaters in summer 2016. The film will be produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment.

?John?s an exceptionally talented producer, and we?re delighted to have him join the flock,? said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment. ?With John?s hands-on producer background and David?s expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things.?

John Cohen most recently produced Illumination Entertainment/Universal Pictures? Despicable Me in 2010 and executive produced Illumination/Universal?s Hop in 2011. Prior to Illumination, Cohen was VP of Production at Twentieth Century Fox Animation. He worked closely with Blue Sky Studios on films including Ice Age, Robots, Ice Age: The Meltdown and Dr. Seuss? Horton Hears a Who. Cohen had the idea to reimagine Alvin and the Chipmunks and developed the 2007 film.

?I?m so excited and honored to be working on this film with Mikael, David, and Rovio?s incredibly talented game developers and artists,? said Cohen. ?From both an entertainment and strategic perspective, Rovio is at the forefront of game innovation and is trailblazing terrific new ways for Angry Birds fans to interact with these characters. I?ve personally spent countless hours playing the Angry Birds games over the last few years, which I can now happily justify as research for the movie.?

Following Marvel Studios? example, which was architected by David Maisel, Rovio will produce and finance the movie outside the studio system and retain full creative control while creating innovative entertainment at the highest level of quality.

?John?s experience, expertise, and passion are perfect for the Angry Birds film and I look forward to working with him to create the best movie experience for all the fans,? said David Maisel.

The upcoming movie marks Rovio Entertainment?s first foray into feature films, though fans have already gotten an introduction to the Angry Birds world through Rovio?s games, books, consumer products, and animations. Since its debut in 2009, the Angry Birds game has been downloaded more than 1 billion times across platforms and versions. The most recent venture, Angry Birds Star Wars, soared to the top of the US iPhone charts within 2.5 hours of release.

Will Angry Birds still be popular in 2016? I'm guessing they will go the Worms route, a few more 2D games then jump into 3D and a few more 2D games but rendered in 3D. Forgot an angry Birds Kart racing game (there was a cancelled Worms kart game).

Just like the World of Warcraft Movie, Candy Land, Akira, and Ghostbusters III !

This movie is never comming out.

Also The Bioshock movie as well, but that would be an awesome movie. I think once upon a time they were also going to make a spore movie.

The problem with all those films is scripts...you want to get it right and with that takes time and multiple writers and rewrites

Yeah, I do not think it would be that hard at all to make a movie. Talking animals, birds vs pigs, pretty much writes itself when you think about it.

Now it being good, yeah, no chance in hell, but again, really not that hard to write a movie based on the source material.

    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
