Ugh, really?

Unless it runs as a service in the background, I don't see why a game install would require a reboot.

Some pet peeves:

1. Software that requires access to the net in order to complete an install.

2. Software that brings up a webpage at the end of an install.

3. Software that requires a reboot of your computer before completing an install.

4. Software that needs net.framework in order to run.

5. Software that looks for updates even when you disable updates.

Games that won't run on my old IBM Netvista S42 with a GeForce 6600 video card!

(I'm going to be buying a really new system after the new year, if my plans all work out.

It's most likely just a safe guard, to ensure that if anything loaded any data into memory, that it'll be cleared before starting (So something like a DirectX update, it wouldn't like old + new versions in memory at the same time, etc.)

Lol! Isn't that one of those torrent specials? LMAO!

Uh, no. It's just the normal version of the game now.

Under 10 seconds with SSD and Win8.

About 10 seconds with SSD and Win7.

There's more to a restart than simply boot time. You've also got the time you have to take to save anything that may need saving in apps you currently have open, then you got to close those, and then wait for windows to finally unload and shut down.

Yeah true, I guess some people may have been in the process of creating some art masterpiece in Photoshop, while writing their biography in MS Word, then like... oh, I almost forgot to install my new game, better git er done. lol. Oh damn, I gotta restart now, and I had all that other stuff on the go too. lol!!

Just because you don't multitask doesn't mean others don't as well.

I do, I was only trying to be funny or sarcastic, something like that. So just add another 5 to 10 seconds for saving/closing apps. No big deal.

Besides, like the screenshot displays, you do have the option to NOT restart at that given time, like any other program installation or updates.

    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
