These are my versions of the PDC Login Slate design from build 4051,

I have been skinning different applications for some years now, and a lot of them were OS imports from the XP Beta's. I have turned my attention to the latest alpha builds out of interest. I have based my second design on a different background, which I based on I think was Windows X's design. Thanks to all on neowin for the inspiration and preview shots that have been shown off here. BTW, yes I DO ALSO have the 4051 build, so thanks :D

These logins are made soley for the resolution of 1280x1024 - I guess anyone with a res hacker can mod them to fit other resolutions.

Terms of use for these logins ? - none really, feel free to modify the logins for your own use ONLY. Credits go out to everyone on Neowin who have been working hard on importing these images from Microsofts OS !

For 1280x1024 ONLY Download these : -

Nice work! But Can't you make the go button like this, I saw it done before on a longhorn login screen...

Edit:

I'm using the logon now, but the ? mark is gone and so is the Shut Down option...

And maybe you could make the window where the users are displayed smaller? (as big as 1 or 2 users?)

Which login are you using ? - I can make another version of it,. The ones I released are designed for use on monitors with 1280x1024 resolution. thats why the shutdown link is un seen. (its probably up the screen in the white area).

so if your res is not 1280x1024 thats why its like that I think. (use resource hacker to extract the background and resize it to your desktop size) eg, 1024x768. then add it back to the loginui.exe :)

If people request it, I will do a 1024x768 version - no lower than that though ! :D

P.S yes I was looking at the login strip image and willwork on some idea's for that cheers.

Hey ! for the login track, do you have any examples of this I can look at ? eg, the other logins you have seen this done with. It will just help me get it worked out faster so I can update the logins with it.

Cat.

Wow thats higher than mine !! LOL .. ok's I will work on it asap.

If you can point me to any logins that use the image where its like that - please let me know :)

Only one shot? Can't you make it center just as I did? Mine is not mock up shot. It's real. Real Logon which available for Longhorn Transformation Pack 4.0

Don't understand you again Windows X !

The way you say this is that your Login in the transformation pack is the real one. - Which thats not possible due to the changes in the logonui.exe script etc. - it just wouldn't work On XP ?? (unless your redistributing the ORIGINAL ??) - I even checked the logonui versions and see the way Microsoft compiled them are different ! (just saying how it sounds thats all) :D Like I say I don't follow what you mean.

The screenshots for the ones I have been working on can be found on deviantart with the download links to them. The screenshots you refer to as 'Mock' shots - are screenshots of the logins in action at the time of testing.

Thats the deal.

As for centering the login area - yes it might be possible for me to adjust the margins. :)

Cat.

can this be make to be in the center? its like this in both logon.

Oops. Ahh, yep I DID say this is SOLEY for use with the resolution of 1280x1024 (I think ? - appologies other wise) thats why its all out of alignment.

Requests for other resolutions can be taken. Just ask.

Cat.

orh. sorry. i forgot to read carefully. can you provided resolution of 1024x768 in both version? thanks.

not a bug really, its probably there, you just can't see it because of the white rectangle of the login screen. its probably caused through that. Normally the logoff... and Shutdown... words appear in the center of XP's shutdown screen, it wont show because of the white area on the login because the login area is static. * Could be that the text is either disabled, or in white* in which case I will enable it or turn the text colour to black.

On Longhorn build 4051, the screens for this are not apart of the shutdown or logoff screens. Seems to be different for the real login on the PDC build.

Also I have now updated the logins so I have posted links to 1024x768 versions.

Please note that these logins are designed for specific resolutions, and because of the static login box on the loginui screen, you probably wont see logging off... or shutting down ... (hope I have explained this ok) :)

Cat.

yep ! I will do considering a lot of people use that res :)

I'll have them added to my deviantart account later on :) (give a me an hour or so) ;)

Cat.

Is the 1600?1200 res included too??:

I can do that for you now;))

Will be as quick as possible:))

Can't you make one file which support all resolution as I did (set align to center)?

Thanks, would be a better idea to really. The reason for the way it was done this way was because of the images for the login being different to each resolution. If you have a background image used which is at 1280x768, and some one with a lesser resolution of 1024x768 uses that same login, then things look all wrong and out of alignment. The login box as it is, is part of the background image itself, so when it resizes, so do the login box area. Then it looks wrong if in a different res.

I look forward to your login screens, mine are just basically, are to fill a gap while you get yours ready for release. At least people have the option to try out a PDC style login until then ;)

Regards

Cat.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
