ESET sub almost up looking for new AV

Question

Ok my ESET smart security subscription is ending soon and i was wanting to get something new as i think it could be the source of my youtube issues so the question is as im on Windows 7 64bit what's the best

  1. firewall
  2. anti virus
  3. currently have malwarebytes so do i really need something else that deals with that?

thanks for any and all input!

As other have said

1) Stay away from the firewalls. WAY more headache than what they are worth. The one built into windows works just fine.

2) Stay away from MSE, for some reason 90% of the people on this site like it, but in my experience its not great.

3) I also recommend buying Malwarebytes. It's only a 1 time purchase and a great second line of defense.

One of the best forms of AV is to keep your stuff up to date. This includes

1) Windows

2) 3rd party applications such as but not limited to Adobe reader, flash and Java

This is what the average persons security looks like.. and i'm not making this up!

Expired version of X Antivirus (usually Norton or McAfee)

Some people are also missing service pack 1 for 7 or Service pack 2 for vista including all the updates following

Out of date versions of

Adobe Air

Adobe Flash

Adobe Reader

Java

Siliverlight

Firefox

Quicktime

Toolbars

Ask

Alot

Mywebsearch

Conduit

malwarebytes isn't worth using for free even though :/

couldn't even handle simple malware and didn't even blink an eye at other more serious ones when I was testing it out yesterday

Are you serious? It's a decent scanner. It obviously won't find everything as no single scanner can.

If you do decide to renew, i'd only get the av part or just get a free one like maybe avast or mse. The weakest link in security is and always will be... The user. No security app can protect against a user's foolishness/behavior.

Check out VB100 testing - http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/index

You can get an idea of how different AV are doing, and recent tests to see trending (succeeding/failing protection)

Current chart - http://www.virusbtn....mparative/index

Looks like a paid product called coranti doing the best.

Despite Coranti looking to be one of the best products in testing... they going out of business.

Avira Free is also doing very well

well this was one that EVERY other one found and wasn't brand new or hard to detect and should have been found by it. Hence simple.

That's strange because I used the exact same link to buy a subscription for myself before I posted it here

I've tried it just now and it's working. Try a couple times as it may be getting hammered, 13c for a year's worth of subscription for a top tier security solution like that is a steal.

    • Autonomous post-training loop placed 8th of 4,000 and then rewrote its own evaluation strategy. An autonomous AI system built by researchers at Amazon's A-EVO-Lab completed a full post-training run on a 30 billion parameter NVIDIA Nemotron model — with no human in the loop, across four rounds running over multiple weeks — and then did something its designers had not planned for: it detected that its own internal evaluation metric had become misleading and redesigned the search strategy it was using to improve itself. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319123/20260626/nvidia-ai-trained-itself-30b-model-corrected-its-own-broken-metric-mid-run.htm

    • If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.
    • Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
