Does anyone get this? When you create or modify a folder it comes up with the message "Could not find item this item" then when you click Try Again it works like it should :s It only seems to do this on the desktop

I have a similar problem with a folder I created not so long ago, but not on the desktop, but on an external Drive. I tried deleting the folder, but it won't go away. Even though the folder is blank (NO HIDDEN CONTENT), it won't be deleted. I even try taking ownership to no avail.

I think the fastest way to solve this is either booting to linux (which I'm very lazy to try this out) and deleting the folder from there, or formatting the drive.

BTW, I think you need to refresh the desktop. Press F5. This usually happens when the OS does not auto-refresh itself.

Didn't seem to affect it

I am puzzled at if this is a "genuine" Windows warning message.

"Could not find this item (no full stop)" and "THIS is no longer located" - how can that get past Microsoft's quality checks?

I don't know but it worked fine on Windows 7 so I think they messed up somewhere whislt removing stuff

Haven't seen it before. What are the permissions of the Desktop folder?

It has full access

use RD /S in cmd by running it as admin. I had the same problem and this fixed.

here's in detail:

1. Open command prompt (CMD) as admin. (Run it as admin)

2. Go to the Dir where that folder is located which you wanna delete. ( I hope ya all know how to do this... [cd c:] [cd users] [cd user name] [cd desktop] etc. )

3. Once you are in that dir, which contains that folder. Type :

RD /S Folder Name

and upon confirmation, press Y and press enter

that's it

was this an upgrade? to windows 8 from 7 or clean install

i can create rename delte folders perfectly fine on my desktop definatly sure drive isnt failing? chkdsk?

OK so it seems after performing a chkdsk and a restart it seems to have sorted it :)

My post was actually in regards to the grammar used. Using the word "this" above is just not up to Microsoft's standards - how did it pass through quality assurance? Never in the history of WIndows has there been grammatical errors.

"Could not find THIS item" - what item? And no full stop.

"THIS is no longer located..." - the word "this" should be replaced with the respective file/folders name.

    • Formatting would be awesome if fully customised and then roll out the settings as a company wide standard.
    • I just want to know why the volume control feature in the browser version keeps appearing then disappearing, here today - gone tomorrow. Now it's gone again. Annoying as hell.

    • This article does not make sense and it’s very evident, the bug wasn’t confirmed to exist, because the application itself runs on editions of Windows which make it impossible to run Hyper-V VMs on, “Basically, Claude Desktop on Windows spins up a 1.8GB Hyper-V virtual machine if you use Claude Cowork or agent mode even once.”, suggests the bug is caused by something else otherwise it would only happen to users with the capability of running Hyper-V VMs and that’s only if Hyper-V was enabled which is by default not enabled. The true issue is that the author who reported the bug used the incorrect terminology, it’s actually a container, not a VM that is being started by the way. There were users on macOS reporting the same issue, Hyper-V, doesn’t exist on that platform obviously. Every single user who confirmed the problem in the last week was either using macOS making this issue impossible to be relevant to them, or was a comment talking about WSL, which the author indicated 3 months ago was disabled.
    • “To prevent hallucination issues and keep the database clean, the platform uses a multi-agent verification loop to check code quality.” - This absolutely isn’t happening. ”Before the massive rise of LLMs, which tanked its traffic by about 50% over the last couple of years, Stack Overflow was the go-to website for millions of programmers seeking coding solutions.” - It still is trusted, because the community of users, blocked other users from submitting false and misleading answers generated by AI agents that can be convinced something it generated is actually incorrect even if it’s actually correct. The company itself doesn’t know what it wants to be so it keeps trying and failing to introduce AI features to the platform. This effort will also fail, already submitted one successful poison pill, look forward to generating more.
