Prices of Windows 8 after January

Recommended Posts

With sales being lackluster, I doubt they raise them.

Windows 7 was selling 632,911 licenses/day

Windows 8 came out 74 days ago, and if it has sold 60 million licenses since release day, then that is 810,811 licenses/day, so your either (a) trolling, or (b) trolling. Please stop either (a) or (b) and let the OP ask his legit question.

Don't you think the super low upgrade price $14 where anyone could get promo code is responsible for that? The scenario could have been drastically different if the starting prices were on Windows 7 levels.

With that being said, I am curious to know whether the increased prices will have any impact on sales.

It was actually 15 dollars. But it could go into the 100s or the 200s as Windows has always had a high price. Until now.

Well if you look at OEM pricing:

Windows 7 Home Premium: ?73

Windows 8 Standard: ?70

Windows 7 Pro: ?108

Windows 8 Pro: ?115

Retail pricing hasn't been announced yet I don't believe but chances are it will be like office and will be slightly more expensive than 7 or the same price :)

I heard the price will either triple of quadruple. I heard this from my co-worker and not from any legitimate source, so take it with a grain of salt.

As for the success of Windows 8, I would be surprised if it's flopping. It's a pretty amazing OS. I have Vista on my home desktop, Windows 7 at work, and Windows 8 on my laptop. Windows 8 is the fastest of the three. And once you get used to it, it's actually a lot more user-friendly, believe it or not.

60 million is lackluster?

out of 8 7 billion people? .... yeah I'd say so.

I use 8 myself just to keep myself in the "loop" and not lose support as is done with older Windows eventually.

I'm not on a surface laptop so I use Pokki Link and it works great!

fast and snappy.. however the PR and roll out were dismal. They should have done a Win95 style roll out.

Don't forget that many of those licenses were sold to OEM's in mass numbers for later production and are most likely not even activated yet so these numbers are a bit skewed. People are therefore buying new computers with it coming on them but be it they get a choice I'm sure many would opt to stay with Win7 considering its easier to stay with something that works and you already know.

$15?? I thought the promo price was $40. Am I missing something?

This was for newly purchased laptops and desktops only. But on Windows 8 official launch day, Microsoft allowed anyone to obtain discount code which knocked down the price from $40 to $14-15 depending on your country.
