new console question

Recommended Posts

If you didn't use such a vague/incoherent topic title and force people to click the thread just to see what your question was, you may have attracted more informed readers that could have given you your answer.

Next time put the question in the title and you might have some luck.

there was nothing vague or incoherent about uni's question. I haven't been to the forum in almost a month. it's dying and our community is a shadow of its former self, and people like me are at fault. he's perfectly right to be annoyed/sad. used to be there'd be a dozen answers within a day of posting something like this. Sorry uni!

He didn't say the question was vague, he said the 'Topic Title' was vague; and I agree, it was. Did you ever think maybe 51 people had no idea how to answer your question?

Unimatrix just needs to stop whining, he sounds like a 31-year-old child.

i agree about the topic title. so many people dont realize that we're seeing the topic outside of the subforum - perhaps in the Spy or the main page. seeing "new console question" can mean a myriad of things. i only clicked on it b/c i thought you were asking about the PS4 or next Xbox :/

it's like those people that title their topic something like "quick question"...

and, back to your original question, i'm one that didnt know the answer either.

Snap and snap.

even so if you figure something out on your own its always nice to post how you resolved your issue so that people in the future that see this topic will know how it was done.

the topic said new console question. in the old days of the caring neowin where we were actually active you'd click on the thread, read the post, and answer. you wouldn't look at the thread, think "oh i'm so high and mighty and president of the universe so my busy schedule won't allow me to actually try and find out what this is about", then go into the thread only to complain about how vague the topic was. neowin is dead, and again, it's people like me that are responsible. i can't be bothered to come here anymore, lost all motivation to do so. and this obnoxious attitude from some members doesn't help. uni's topic and question were completely valid.

i disagree. most views were from the people who though it was the question about the "new" consoles. ps4 or xbox720(or whatever)

i know i did it.

and all you "old time" members, i have being here for since 2001.

your whining does not help in the slightest. the feedback about topic name was actually more helpful for improving the forums. bitching about how bad it is is not helping anyone, really.

if you can't be bothered to come here anymore, then don't, simple as that. it will improve it for others who actually come here once in a while.

even so if you figure something out on your own its always nice to post how you resolved your issue so that people in the future that see this topic will know how it was done.

Yes. It would have been nice to see the solution posted, the topic title changed, and maybe even the topic pinned to help others.

All well and good if the person reading the question knows the answer.

Which people only did after you chastised the 51 people who viewed the topic and didn't reply (probably because they didn't know the answer or wanted to know what the actual question was since your topic/thread title is as vague as you can get).

neowin is dead, and again, it's people like me that are responsible. i can't be bothered to come here anymore, lost all motivation to do so. and this obnoxious attitude from some members doesn't help. uni's topic and question were completely valid.

You know, it works both ways. You need to post informative thread titles. You need to be patient. You need to accept that there are tens of thousands of users to these forums and not all of them are going to know the answer to your question. Hell, you're a member and didn't know the answer. You ever stop to consider that there are others like you around here?

And that both ways thing - it's generally considered polite and good forum etiquette to post the answer to the question if you figured it out yourself so future members can find an answer easily by searching (which is also a great reason to use a meaningful thread title).

it wasn't my question metal dragon, it was the OP's. and panacea, just be quiet. you been here four years longer than me but your post count is half. I guess you'll say each one was a gem of wisdom while mine are whining fluff. anyway, my point is that there was very little patience towards the OP. Etiquette? What is this, congress? He didn't use offensive language and didn't do anything wrong. Could have posted updates or showed more concern, but beyond that there was no call to jump down his throat like that.

Dont forget to transfer your licenses to the new console.

From Microsoft...

If your console was recently repaired or if you?ve purchased a new console, use the license transfer option on your console to transfer content licenses. Here?s how:

  1. On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.
  2. Go to Settings and select Account.
  3. Go to Your Billing Options and select License Transfer.
  4. Follow the instructions to transfer the content licenses.

After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. Then the content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you?re not connected to Xbox LIVE.

    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. Btw, I note on askwoody that Woody Leonhard passed away March, 2025 aged 73. His site was one of my favorites back in the day. Belated yes but RIP Woody.
    • Because of the EU (a good thing) newer android devices been getting 5 years worth of security patches. Except some Motorola which found the loop hole, and offer ZERO updates. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
