Possibly NSFW - Dead Island: Riptide's UK edition comes with bloody tor

If you're less than thrilled about the contents of the North American Dead Island: Riptide"Rigor Mortis" Edition, know that it could be worse. In fact, it is worse in the UK, where the collector's edition of Techland's latest comes with this mangled torso, presumably intended for you to display in your home. It's too gross even to qualify for the A Christmas Story joke that usually applies to body-part statues.

The 31 cm-high statue, and the rest of the "Zombie Bait Edition," are only available with the Xbox 360 version of the game, limiting the potential spread of these things and ensuing psychological damage somewhat. It will be released in the UK on April 26.

We all know collectors editions of games come with some absolute crap, especially when it's a statuette or ornament or something.. but this just takes it to a whole new level of WTF.

Update:

The UK version of Dead Island Riptide's collector's edition, the Zombie Bait Edition, has caused developer Deep Silver, to issue an apology on Twitter. I guess they were a little surprised that people were a little put off by the idea of owning a bloody, dismembered, beheaded, female torso. You can check out the full statement below:

A statement on the Zombie Bait Edition:

We deeply apologize for any offense caused by the Dead Island Riptide ?Zombie Bait Edition?, the collector?s edition announced for Europe and Australia. Like many gaming companies, Deep Silver has many offices in different countries, which is why sometimes different versions of Collector?s Editions come into being for North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

For the limited run of the Zombie Bait Edition for Europe and Australia, a decision was made to include a gruesome statue of a zombie torso, which was cut up like many of our fans had done to the undead enemies in the original Dead Island.

We sincerely regret this choice. We are collecting feedback continuously from the Dead Island community, as well as the international gaming community at large, for ongoing internal meetings with Deep Silver's entire international team today. For now, we want to reiterate to the community, fans and industry how deeply sorry we are, and that we are committed to making sure this will never happen again.

It seems kinda strange to me to be upset about this model (a dismembered torso with the skin peeling off) considering the game involves you dismembering zombies which have their skin peeling off.

I can understand disliking both, but then why direct your anger towards the model? Surely the game is worse.

Faux outrage that its a female torso, if it were a male torso no one would bat an eyelid.

At first, I didn't think people were offended by the fact that it was a female torso. I thought they were offended because it was a bloody and dismembered human torso. I went on Twitter and searched "#deadisland" and found some tweets that I consider to be outrageous, attention-seeking, and melodramatic. And most of the tweets that fit my description were made by people that consider themselves feminists. One woman dedicated her Twitter profile to the anti-Dead Island female torso cause: https://twitter.com/...8441600/photo/1 (start reading it from the bottom)

I have no issues with gender equality but I have issues with people making one-sided claims. I highly doubt these feminists would complain if it was a male torso instead of a female one. They wouldn't be outraged or emotional about it because it doesn't fit in with their agenda. That's the kinda thing that irritates me when it comes to a topic like this. It's unlikely that Deep Silver has a hidden agenda in which they implicitly demean women with a bloody statue. They're not sexist and they're not offending anyone but people that take offence to silly things.

Oddly enough, her stand against this had the opposite affect on me; it made me want to go and buy the game just to annoy her. But I can be petty like that.

Seriously though, what's the big deal here? Is anyone here on Neowin genuinely offended by this? If so, I would love to hear why. As others have pointed out, you've bought a game that is violent, bloody and gruesome. If something about the statue offends you, I'd love to know what the difference is between this and the game itself.

They better not remove it like that time COD devs had to remove a section of the game cause soldiers cried like babies about content. I WANT THAT TORSO

Damn, some "people" are sensitive....

WTF is wrong with people these days? So what it's a woman? so what it has the Union flag? So what it's hacked to pieces? That's the f*c*ing game you twits!

GTFO and grow up!

Anyone remember how uptight americans got when PS Vita in Europe did the ad that had the girl with boobs on her back (implying theres now something to play with on the back and front). Now this. LOL Funny stuff.

    • Didn’t Dbrand once complain that Casetify was ripping off their designs a well? seems pretty bad of them to try and get around Valve’s copyright this way with that in mind.
    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
    • It's listed #399.99 on Amazon, per your link. It's not $299.99.
