Just ordered new machine for Hackintosh.. I'm kind of excited about it, because I can't wait for the case most of all..

I'll go through building this baby out here and a simple guide for installing OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 8 on it when it gets here early next week.

Specs:

  • ASUS Sabertooth X79 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-3930K 6-core Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011
  • Corsair Dominator Platinum 32gb DDR3 1600 Quad Channel
  • 2x 512gb SSDs + 128GB Corsair GT SSD cache drive for Bridge/Photoshop
  • 2x 3TB storage HDDs SATA 6gb/s (RAID 1)
  • 2x EVGA GTX 580s Superclocked
  • CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler
  • COOLER MASTER COSMOS II RC-1200-KKN1 Full Tower
  • Seasonic PSU 1050W

This case is probably one of the most amazing cases I have seen for a PC and I've been building them for 20 years. The only contender to Cosmos II from Cooler Master was Corsair's 800D or 650D (a bit smaller)

Nice rig, except for the GPUs. Why 580s?

I already bought them not too long ago, and I really don't game as much on PC so they are plenty powerful for some time to come. Unless DX12 cards come out.

Wow - what an ugly case....

Wonder what you consider a pretty case.. this case is absolutely slick, beautifully designed, masterfully crafted.

To be honest, I prefer my cases to be very simple boxes, in a Fractal Design/Lian Li sort of way. This to me has been over-designed to try to differentiate itself. Just my opinion and I am not the one that needs to have it sitting on/under their desk, but hey, that's why you post in a public forum, isn't it?

I like that case. In a weird way. I really love Coolermaster cases. I have the Mystique 632...Not the one with the window or the silver front, the all black one. It' older but to this day I love it and have no desire to replace it. One of the sexiest cases I've seen..And the more I look at this one the more I like it. Not sure if I like it enough to drop nearly 350 dollars on it but hey, at least it's not 400? ;)

So, let's see this completed!

Got notified my order is shipping today. Since they are not working over the weekend I should probably get it by Tuesday and then the fun begins.

Excited every time I get new parts. That feeling of putting stuff together and maxing it out never gets old :)

Case arrived today and still waiting for parts.. but HOLY SH** .. this case is UNBELIEVABLE.. it's insanely huge in an awesome way. The build is unreal. This is without a doubt the best case I have ever had the pleasure to buy. The case on the right is Antec 1200 just to give you a sense of size.

Next steps:

1. Renew Microsoft Technet ($199) so I can get all the WIndows and Office and all the apps for free since the $30 upgrade WIndows 8 is **** and only works with one key used (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/)

2. Downloading Unibeast and Multibeast from TonyMacOSX86 http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=3

3. Download KextUtility so I can update OSX kexts I change (if I need to cause I don't like KextBeast ) http://cvad-mac.narod2.ru/Kext_Utility

4. Formatting the USB drive (at least 8gb so I can image the OSX onto it)

5. Downloading Mountain Lion from App store again so I can extract the DMG for clean install for USB

6. Preparing Windows 8 USB install stick as well (with clean Win8 Pro x64)

Congrats, Boz!

I wonder what was your reasoning for choosing the Sabertooth over DELUXE/WS/RAMPAGE series.

It offered me pretty much everything I needed without the overpricing of Rampage series. Sure Rampage has a bit better support for ECC ram and so on but the difference of $125 was not worth it. I might as well add a bit more and get another 32gb of Dominator Platinum RAM than paying for nice packaging and bling bling.

running to Fry's to pick up some quiter fans with green led lights and some UV cables for SATA and a few more thingies. Excited! Building this bitch shortly.

A few photos of all of the parts together...nerd porn

*nerdgasm* Uhhhhhhnnnn. I think I need to go shower and change my drawers!

Nice build. I'm curious how your OS X setup goes. Unless there's a user DSDT file for that ASUS motherboard or you know how to make one; certain functions of OS X may not won't work right. Right now Gigabyte z77-b75 series boards seem to be the best option for a Hackintosh as their ACPI definition tables are the most compatible with OS X, without the need for a DSDT definition file.

Will let you know.. saw tons of people installing on Sabertooth.. was smooth sailing but we'll see.

Pray tell, how much time did it took for you to get it all completed?

We have a custom full order with this exact case, but Rampage board, Intel's own little liquid cooler, Crossfire cards and AX1200i and stuff. I nearly fell off the chair. I have a bad feeling about this.

You you are intending to install OSX you would be better off with GTX6xx series due to native support in OSX.. other than that nice config as well

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out. • Dang that sucks. I just started using this feature instead of Pushbullet.
    • I use my devices until the very end. I used my old desktop computer for 16 years, my OnePlus 5T phone for 8 years and my LG Gram laptop for 7 years. Even though they are still working, there are no more security updates for most of them (Windows 7 ESU, Android 12 ROM and the LG Gram because I wanted an ARM based laptop).
