Since September 2012, I've been brainstorming and developing a new media player for HTML5. Now, I've decided to take that media player that's still in development and use it to birth a whole new HTML5 Video service like YouTube, Dailymotion, and some others that are now moving from Flash to HTML5. This will be a YeoWorks project. A programming friend of mine is now aboard on the project and we will be working hard to get it out the door as soon as we can. The service will also be ad-free on videos. No need to watch a 30 second ad before a 10 second video anymore.

My question is very simple. What do you want in your VIDEO service?

Are the videos gonna be able to go fullscreen? They don't on YouTube in html5, so I stick with flash.

I'm working on large mode now. Fullscreen mode is in the planning and hopefully will come soon after the project is out the gate.

Also, it will depend on your browser. Fullscreen is still a security issue across browsers. I have a work around, but it's not really true full screen.

Here's my 2 cents.

The video site market is overcrowded. It's practically impossible to take on giants like YouTube and Dailiymotion, if You are planing something like those sites you need to come up with some really unique and new design that hasn't been done yet. You can't just take the site and put videos in a column in the first page like most sites are doing, it's a real turn-off for people as they will think "oh another clone". I'm not sure how you should design it but think of something new how to start. ;)

Thank You :)

I have an all new design and way of doing everything. Much simpler and puts "seeing the video" as #1 again. The UI is simply beautiful. I made sure I took my time on the look and feel of the site.

Ad free will only go so far. Yes ads on youtube are annoying especially ones without the Skip ad button but seeing how many people use youtube and how much bandwidth they consume I see the need for it.

Some of the features I really like are typical of live streaming services-- live chat, easily pop out video or chat windows. Also the ability to directly support channels you really like by subscribing/donating is great and can be used to avoid needing ads for your service.

Funny you said that. I was thinking about adding in an adult section.

Not really a good idea, that means you need to add an disclamer already before entering the site which will also turn some people off from the site. It doesn't really matter if you add an seperate section for it, if it grows you just don't have enough manpower to check all the videos and someone could easily submit some hardcore porn to the "funny" section.

There is enough free porn moving around the net already.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Hi everyone, I'm planning a small network upgrade and was wondering how others prepare their networks for future needs. Do you usually invest in higher-speed switches and better cabling from the start, or do you upgrade only when necessary? I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and any lessons you've learned over time. Thanks!
