Video card upgrade from ATI 5770 for $150?

Recommended Posts

I had a 5770 recently as well. I got a Radeon HD6870 for around $150 (usd) as well as free games and after a $30 MIR.

This what I got: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814150561

This is the corresponding card in CA: http://www.newegg.ca...N82E16814150561

Actually, Luc2k, that is worse than the 6870.

Not according to what I've seen.

Those aren't real world tests, but the 7850 leads in every category while using less power. That is the 2GB and is more costly, though.

I just bought a 7770 to replace my 4850. I think I only paid $119 or $129USD for that from Newegg.

I would get the XFX 7850 http://www.ncix.com/...FX&promoid=1270

it's $139 after MIR, $160 before MIR.

Also i would stay away from newegg in Canada, since they don't got as many sales going on as ncix.com

Edit: I just came across XFX HD7770 for $99 after MIR http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=68526&vpn=FX777AZDF4&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1270

So, I decided to stretch my budget and got a Powercolor HD7870 2GB for $199 on NCIX.CA

That's going to be a good upgrade! More than double de performance from all the benchmark I've seen.

Now, just have to wait.

Thanks all!!! :D

The 7850 is better.

Agreed - the HD7850 IS better (and the 2 GB model is better than the 1 GB model, especially considering the abysmally-small spread between the two price-wise).

Newegg.com/Newegg.ca has nineteen HD7850 2 GB cards in stock (the PowerColor model at the bottom of the page when sorted in low-to-high price order is out of stock) - the *highest-priced* model is all of (US dollars) $229.95 (and is one of the few that require two 6-pin PCI-E power plugs; most require just one, despite the 256-bit memory bus and 2 GB GDDR5 RAM loadout and - in some cases - even with a factory/AIB overclock).

Here are all nineteen in price order: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600100181%20600286767%20600298542%20600007782&IsNodeId=1&name=2GB

I'm also going to upgrade from a 5770 1GB, I could get the 7850 right now but maybe it'll be best to wait for the new 8000 series. Anyone know when those are expected to hit the market?

He's still over budget as it is with the 1GB version, unless he runs something higher than 1920x1200 or really high levels of antialiasing, the memory is not going to be a bottleneck. I've yet to run into one at 1680x1050.

When you are on a budget you go with the strictly necessary.

Q2, but take into account the equivalent card is going to be a further 2 months away. With the 7xxx series they launched the high-end in January, the low-end in February and the middle-end in March. On top of this the 1GB 7850 came even later.

Soon, but probably not soon enough for the 7850. I don't expect those to drop much more, and the replacement card will be closer to $200.

i have a 5770xxx and it can still play any game on the market cranked to the max. the fan kicks in pretty loud when i play Far Cry 3 but i do not have any framerate problems.

Id of gone with the XFX 7870. Good make that is i got the XFX 6870 1GB Black edition. rock solid performer. Sapphire and Asus are 2 other really good manufacturers. I like the style of MSI but had a rubbish experience once of a gigbyte card so i stay away from them now.

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
