Do you hate Microsoft?

Recommended Posts

No, I don't.

I like a lot of the stuff they have put out there and even though I cannot stand Windows 8 and I'm worried about some of the decisions made recently I still think they generally speaking an awesome tech company.

edit 1:

Also, why you no include poll via native forum poll feature? Grrr...

(sidenote: very maturely started discussion on that page)

edit 2:

Hmmm... you can't vote on that page... You've given us the results page and there's no way to "go back" (the link won't work, because our browsers haven't been on the previous page)

edit 3:

(lol)

This should work: http://poll.pollcode.com/tnfclv

I don't hate MS -- I look up to them in a hopeful way.

I'd like them to stay ethical and honest.

I am baffled by the programmers and software designers.

I am baffled by the seemingly endless buggy RTM versions.

I am baffled when they put out a backward product like Windows 8.

Microsoft should ask the end users what they want and like.

MS should make operating systems that are as customizable as possible -- not force changes that many people don't want.

Different isn't always better.

Agree. It is silly to hate companies... But I think it's ok to hate people... Like CEOs. :D

the two topics are an all time low for neowin.

sad day

You've not been around much, have you?

I see you only recently joined, but even lurking should have shown you what kind of stuff sometimes floats around here... :/

This is exactly the reaction retarded articled like the poll on the front page produce. Congrats Neowin for nurturing fanboy mentality, keeping the quality as low as possible, and driving long time community members away. This place has truly turned awful.

Why couldn't you just attach a poll to the thread? And no, I don't hate Microsoft but the direction they're taking concerns me at the moment. I don't like product bastardisation and I don't like the fact that they seem more interested in catering to app junkies than the traditional users of their products.

If you hate Microsoft, maybe you should consider another tech site than NeoWIN. just an idea :)

Also why use an off site poll and not the built in one of the forum. other than to make sure noone votes, except those who are the biggest trolls and will go to any length to show their displeasure.

to make sure the staff couldn't delete his poll I would imagine

and probably your reason too

But that wouldn't matter, if they delete his post, noone will ever see and know his poll exists anyway.

When I came to this thread it was pretty new and already had over 10 votes, so I take it that poll originated from some other forum that probably leans towards Microsoft hate or immature punks, as the poll started off with more votes in favor of Microsoft hate.

Meh...

Reporting this thread now, it's just as immaturely worded as the front page news item and just a counterattack against it.

Hence, not very helpful at all.

    • A coalition of publishers sued OpenAI and Microsoft over scraping content without consent by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com AI companies often rely on readily available internet content to train their chatbots and provide users with instant answers. This method of AI training is fast and relatively inexpensive, but using a website’s content without permission or compensation is not something publishers like to see, and this is exactly why Microsoft and OpenAI are now being sued. As reported by Bloomberg, a group of publishers that collectively own nearly 400 newspapers has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The coalition argues that the two companies scraped their content to build AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot without paying any compensation. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that while AI products have generated billions of dollars in market value using publishers’ work, none of that value has been shared with the publishers. The plaintiffs are seeking statutory damages and injunctive relief for alleged copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “Defendants systematically and secretly crawled the Publishers’ websites—including content behind paywalls and other access restrictions—and copied the Publishers’ articles, stories, and other original works onto their own servers without authorization,” the complaint states. The publishers also described the AI boom as a “death knell for local journalism” if AI companies that scrape content for free are not held accountable. Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his law firm, Platkin LLP, are representing the publishers. “Our models empower innovation, are trained on publicly available data, and are grounded in fair use,” OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri told Bloomberg. This is not the first lawsuit involving the unauthorized use of publishers’ content by AI firms, but it is one of the largest coalitions ever formed against the free use of content by AI chatbots. In 2024, OpenAI and Microsoft also faced a similar lawsuit from eight newspapers that claimed AI products were benefiting from their content without permission.
