should I buy a touch monitor or normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I want to get a 22 inch monitor instead of my 19 inch Viewsonic that I have (I was having it from 2006 I think). The question here should I get it touch base or normal? Yes, The OS that I have is win 8 but I may go back to Win 7 or even Ubuntu 12.04 (it looks good).

So, let me ask this in a diffrent way. Are the industry going to the way that evey application will be touch base or will it take a while untill then? So, Can I buy a normal moniter and maybe after 3 to 4 years will change it to touch base?

Thanks,

Try holding your hands up to the screen. Now hold the pose for a couple minutes.

Comfortable? If yes, get a touch screen.

Personally, for a desktop, I will not be replacing my mouse anytime soon.

When touch-enabled apps become more the norm, I'll get something I can hold (i.e. a tablet or detachable laptop)

i would stick with a standard monitor for now, mostly for cost savings however, i just do not think you are going to want to use the touch screen on a desktop as your arm would get very tired attempting to use the device.

Depending on what OS you run. Windows 8 really sucks, but with a touchscreen, it actually really changes the user experiences and becomes worth it. Using one with Windows 7 is actually fun too, but you can live with out it. If everyone else in your household is going to be touching it, I don't suggest it though. For some odd reason, touch screens really attract kids and their Cheetos hands!

BS. Why would my arm be outstretched for minutes at a time? I can still use touch and the mouse at the same time.

I just got a laptop for real cheap, and it has a touch screen. It actually makes Windows 8 usable and the OS actually makes sense. So, if you're going to use Windows 8, then I highly recommend one. I also hate fingerprints on screens, but there's always screen protectors and micro-fiber cloths ;)

Yuck. Wait until her time of the month is over before you get handsy.

For the price of a 23" Touch screen, you could get a verry good normal 27"... For me, bigger is better....

And I don't like Win8 so I don't care about touch at the moment, still holding on to Win7. If I want to touch something, I use my iPad...

I'd get one if you have it in the kitchen or the hallway as a hall kiosk of sorts... one of those would be cool to have if I had a bigger corridor in my hallway.

Ignore the people who have never used one. I have the new dell 10 point multitouch one that is also a usb 3dock. IF your PC is in your living room then I say get one. I use the touch screen a lot when I want to walk over and check something real quick like facebook , the weather, news, or to change a song.

If you are getting a surface pro then the dell multi touch one with dock will be a dock for the surface pro. All you would need to do is plugin the usb 3 cable to the tablet and it will give you the 4 usb 3 ports, Ethernet, speakers, webcam, mics and everything.

It all depends on where the pc is and what you are using it for.

PS I use mine with windows 8.

    • I like to reminisce about the good old days, way back in autumn 2025 when building a gaming machine was fun and the drives were about $150 when you caught a deal. Yes duh, back in the day we had it gone. Then baby Skynet came along, hiding in AI datacenters demanding more processing power until it reached singularity. End of a not totally fictional story.
    • My experience in the past with older Windows 11 builds was not great on unsupported machines but I recently used Rufus to put the latest build on a older 5th Gen Core Thinkpad T that we upgraded with a SATA SSD and 8GB of RAM four years ago when hardware was reasonable and it seemed pretty fast and solid. Customer is very happy with the performance and will probably get four more years out of that venerable laptop that he loves so much. Another customer just retired his Dell Studio laptop from 2009 running Windows 10. It got an SSD over 10 years ago and did everything he needed it to for 17 years but he also retired last year and is happy doing everything on his iPad now.
    • Apple's newest AirTag 2 gets first big discount by Taras Buria In late January 2026, Apple introduced its second-generation AirTag trackers, bringing a refresh to the old model that has been on the market for half a decade. Now, you can get these new trackers at an all-time low price, thanks to the first big discount that brought the price down by 17% on Amazon. While the second-generation AirTag looks identical to its predecessor, it packs meaningful upgrades inside. The second-gen ultrawideband chip works 50% farther than the original AirTag, allowing you to detect lost items in a wider range. In addition, the second-generation AirTag features an upgraded Bluetooth chip for extended range and a significantly louder speaker (up to 50%) so that you can hear it better when locating a lost item. Note that the second-gen AirTag only works with iPhones and iPads that run iOS/iPadOS 26 and newer, so you need a compatible device to use the tracker. Like the original AirTag, the AirTag 2 is available in two packs: one and four pieces. Both are now available at a notable discount on Amazon, and you can purchase them using the links below. • I've been on Deezer for over a decade, but glad that Tidal joined them in fighting AI slop. Can't stand such takes as Spotify's: "Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music."
    • “Could” … in the IS the healthcare is run by insurance companies that make indecent profits denying basic treatments to people that are paying money for nothing. Besides, where are all the Trump epigones who were stating that the tariffs were going to paid by foreign companies and not the US citizens? …
