AppleCare Protection Plan question

Can AppleCare Protection Plan from one region be used in another? I am not sure what is different but it looks like the product codes they use in US etc. are different than those of Australia. Will the US one work in Australia and vice-verca?

I would like to think there should be some price difference that one can avail... and what is the process? Entering registration number on the appropriate registration site?

Looking at this also. If i bought it in the US does it ship something to my address or do you do it all online? On need for a box of documents when i could have it sync to my iTunes account.
