Mossberg 500

Thinking about buying one for home protection. Wanted to know if you guys had any info on them. Aside from the fact that they look mean.

Looked at the Mossberg tactical and wasn't impressed by the fit and finish. Now looking at the Remington 870.

Mossbergs aren'tpretty but they're inexpensive, durable, reliable and there is an almost confusing array of aftermarket accessories for them; special purpose barrels, tactical stocks, scope mounts, rail kits etc. etc. You could do a lot worse.

My Mossberg Persuader is dinged up and scratched but still works like a champ. Would recommend.

Save yourself the grief, and just get a Remington 870.

 

If you want home protection get the Remington 870 EXPRESS Tactical. 

 

Has good fit and finish, plus tons of aftermarket parts.

I liked the Mossberg for the affordability and I have seen so many accessories for it.

I think there's better bang for your buck out there. I'd probably search around for a deal on the guns you want.

Didn't/Doesn't some 870s have feed issues?

Heard a lot about Remington quality going down the drain. So yes I heard that complaint as part of the problem.

Out of the box my 870 EXPRESS Tactical didn't want to feed more than 5 three inch rounds... To fix the issue I dissembled the shotgun, cleaned and lubed it well. Has worked perfect since.

 

My understand is that the internals don't have enough lube in the mag extender, so the spring acts kind of wonky till its lubed, and broke in good. 

 

My Plain Jane 870 EXPRESS without the mag extender has worked perfect since day one.
