Does Kinect/Wii Balance Board games really help you lose weight?

Recommended Posts

if it gets u moving and off your ass then anything helps, u dont have to go to the gym to loose wight, hell just by going for a 30min walk everyday i knocked of 10kgs in 6 weeks

Im talking about a true 100% workout with a game designed in mind for that (Not sure if it even exists)

lol, I guess I was bein a bit sarcastic. But yeah, even like someone else mentioned, if you are doing something, you should lose weight, any movement is better than none.

I've done some stuff with the Wii with and without the board, and some stuff is definitely a workout alright.

Haven't done much with Kinect yet but what I have tried does a good workout too. So yeah they both have great potential for weight loss.

I was 110kg when I got the Kinect and UFC Personal Trainer. Following some healthy eating (which included a day of eat what you want) and the 60 day cut weight programme on the UFC Personal Trainer, I am now 93kg.

There are quite a few fitness "games" on the Kinect but I only tried UFC Personal Trainer and I have to admit that one has some serious tracking issues. RIP THQ. I haven't tried the Nike one yet but Microsoft helped them with developing and they claim tracking is spot on.

Intresting. Over all I think the Kinect gives you more value. The Wii board just looks for weight yourself and that's pretty much it.

Offtopic, can the Xbox 360 S 4 GB be updated to the 250GB version just by buying the hard drive?

I've spoekn to a lot of people who say they lost weight using Wii Fit.

And given the dancing games get your heart rate going, then it makes sense that they would help too.

Yep. I originally bought the XBOX 4 GB with Kinect, then later bought the 320GB hard drive.

It's almost irrelevant what you're doing as long as you're moving and using energy.

Running, walking, swimming, cycling, dancing, on gym equipment, doing pressups etc, all will burn calories (energy) and you will lose weight so long as you don't eat more than you burn off.

Obviously the harder you work, the faster you will burn off energy, so running will burn off more energy than walking for example.

I tried "Your Shape" - http://www.purexbox.com/reviews/2010/11/your_shape_fitness_evolved_360

I found it pretty good. Ended up giving it to someone who needed it more than I (I took up running and eating better).

Did a pretty decent job here. Was fun to boot. I don't think it comes close to better diet though >.>

When I had Kinect it gave me a hell of a lot more energy than most other things in my life. I don't have it anymore, so I said the hell with it and got a monthly bowling pass.

I'd love to have it again, but I'm not going back to the ancient machines.

Well your shape on kinect will give you a real proper workout.

Seconded. Just the demo alone will give you a good workout. Dance Central works well too. And so does EA Sports Active 2 (but I have the PS3 version which comes with arm and leg attachments, so I can't personally comment on the 360 version which uses Kinect), which you should be able to pick up pretty cheap nowadays.

    • Very fitting name since AI users have air where there brains should be.
    • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
