Suggestions for a quieter pc

Recommended Posts

Hi, I need some suggestions on how I can make my pc quieter.

I currently have an earlier revision of the Antec SX630II with 2 80mm fans.

I was thinking about purchasing either the Antec Sonata or the Koolance PC2-601BW (water-cooled) case to replace my current case. Would either of these cases make a significant difference in the amount of noise my pc makes, and if yes, please recommend one if you have any experience with it. Also, how quiet is a watercooled case? Does it eliminate the need for all fans, including the processor fan?

Thanks for your help.

Actually the processor heatsink fan is barely making any noise at all, it's definitely the 80mm fans that are the problem. They are the Antec fans that came with the case.

How old are these?

They shouldn't be making THAT much noise..?

i have three antec fans in my case and they are pretty loud.you could always invest in a rheobus that controls the fan speed of the fans hooked up to it by decreasing or increasing voltage to the fan. or get temperature controlled fans.you could try noise dampening kits which are pretty much sound absorbers that are soft you put in your case.for water cooling there is still a fan and pump that makes noise but it is probably quieter than your current case. :)

Ok, I'm starting to think that maybe the most cost-effective way would be to just replace my fans with ultra-quiet fans, no matter how much I would like a nice black case. :)

So, what are some fans that are regarded as ultra-quiet yet provide adequate cooling?

ooh, i'm looking to quiet my pc too. i think the 70mm cpu fan is too small, so i might put a bigger (lower rpm) fan on it.

for quiet fans, there's panaflo, vantec stealth, etc. not sure how good they are, though, so maybe people can give some opinions. i'm looking for a quiet led fan.

Vantec Steatth Fans. Low rpm, high CFM. Very Quiet.

Panaflo fans also very very quiet and great CFM.

Either will do.

Note, the Antec Sonata is a Ok case, and has a large 120mm fan in the rear and a option to have one in the front.

From the reviews i read, temps rose in it a tiny bit. Just to let you know, temps will rise in low flow quiet cases.

I have a Coolermaster Wavemaster and the thing is damn quiet with the above mentioned fans. Temps are fine on it, even considerig im using a Palemino Athlon(runs hotter)

hehe....haven't you ever thought to remove the fan?

My case runs a little on the warm side even with the fans, so I can't just take one or both out.

Anyway, I've decided to purchase a few Panaflo L1A fans, so thanks to everyone who had suggestions.

quiet fans work fine on your cpu heatsink, just make sure your heatsink is good. to give you an idea, i am currently running a panaflo L1A fan on an SLK-800U. the fan is virtually silent from a meter away with the case on.

at 1.87 volts on my cpu, it idles at around 46 deg C. but if i have 1.675 volts on my cpu, then it idles around 36 deg C. ambient room temperature is 24 deg C.

i would say get the sonata, i have one. its quiet. 120 mm fans are better because they move more air at lower rpms (lower rpms = less noise).

www.silentpcreview.com for the crazy modders who make their PC dead silent u can hear a pin drop.

can we put those quiet fans on top of cpu heatsinks? i mean, they're both fans, so i don't see why it should be any different so long as the cfm is at least as good.

Yes you can.

Im currently using a 2400rpm Ceradyna Ceramic Silent fan with moderate 28cfm as its close to summer here.

In winter i would change to a lower RPM CFM fan.

Just remember, temps may rise slightly when using these sorts of fans.

sweet.  i mean, they're both fans, so i figured they should be the same.  what differences, if any, are there?

i'll need to make some adapter or something to get the 80mm fan to fit, though.

You can but adapters these days.

Like 80mm Fan to 60mm heatsink adapters

Even 80mm Fan to 70 mm heatsink adapter.

Or you can mod it yourself.

how do you measure the fan size? i always thought it was from the center of the hole to the center of the other on one side (not the diagonal), but then my friend said that it's from edge to edge.

if i have a 70mm fan, it's going to be hard to find 70 to 80mm adapters.
