Are you guys even interested in the new consoles?

Ok, but what about the new consoles?

They're about the same? Consoles are always going to have dated hardware compared to PCs, and games are always going to run worse or at a lower spec, that's the main benefit of having a console (The hardware is crappy, but it's consistently crappy, a launch 360 is exactly the same as a 360 made today)

Sure, PCs might cost more, but you get more out of them, at the expense of increased compatibility issues.

That is debatable due to crappy ports, which are quite a lot of them.

For example, this generation of DirectX (11) has been almost useless for PC games. There's still not even DX11 multithreading support in AMD drivers.

My only question to you though would be: how many computers did you buy over that time though?

Also, I've bought two graphics cards at $130-140 each since 2004 (my first desktop I ever bought). That's $260-280... No one is saying that PC gaming is better, but rather that it isn't expensive as one might think. That's all...

Went from Core 2 Duo > Core 2 Quad > Core i5 Nehalem > Core i5 Sandybridge and HD4850 > GTX470 > HD5850 > HD7850 graphics wise and they are only mid range parts. Sure you can buy low to mid range GPU but to be the PC master race you need everything high end to run games at the kind of detail they like to brag about and that is EXPENSIVE.

The only console I have ever owned is a PS1 and that was well worth the money, everything after that was just rubbish, yes graphics better but the gaames were not as originala s they were for PS1. I have been PC gaming since then. But even now I hardly switch my PC on.

Not interested. I like my PC.

Hum... actually, yes. I am interested. I am interested to know how Sony and Microsoft will screw its customers with restrictive business practices.

What like many developers do with DRM on PC?

I'll bet you are quite happy buying digitally from Steam who don't let you trade in games.

if you really need to bring the new xbox online everytime for gaming, then definitely not. the best thing with the 360 is that u can play copied games. it makes the conosle affordable. pc gaming is too expensive and the playstation is just trash for the reason you cant play copied games.

i will keep my 360.

i suspect that most people just download their games - no matter if for consoles or pcs. i pay 2,5 euros roughly for every xbox game. and i paid 300 euros for the console - once.

with pc you have to upgrade your hardware all the time, while with consoles the game companies are forced to optimize code and other things for a given hardware spec.**

face it, pc gaming is much more expensive no matter how you calculate.

Well then by your theory that would make PC the better weapon of choice. Build a PC and pirate your games on it. Not to mention it would be MUCH easier to do on an open platform and you'll be getting the games for free. Also, don't you have to use a PC to create your "copied" games...

and it shows with games having screen taring and very bad frame rates.**

If the rumors of Microsoft and Sony implementing some type of system that restricts used-games are true, then I'm not interested at all. The "always-online" rumor doesn't bother me at all since I live in an area that has consistently good internet coverage.

Everyone needs to get over the whole PC Gaming is more expensive:

?300 and good performance, you don't need to be spending megabucks for a good working PC. Of course it might not be as good as the new consoles when they come out (Which we still don't know much about anyway) but consider the price of games on consoles. Any and all savings made on buying games can be put towards an upgrade, still better, less money used in the long run.

I laugh at the argument that pirating Xbox 360 games makes it cheaper. Those disks you bought? Well you're spending more than someone who didn't and pirates on PC. Good job.

I think the new consoles could be good, maybe it'll push developers to produce better looking games using some of the latest tech though I doubt it'll stop those pesky console ports to PC that don't give good graphics options and have bad controls/menu system for keyboard/mouse use.

I'm just interested in the new Xbox, I'm no longer a Playstation fan. Haven't been since the original Xbox.

If the new Xbox plays Bluray, then I'll have a good reason to buy it and get rid of my 360 and PS3.

I really dislike the PS3 controller, and from the look of the leaks of the PS4 controller, not much has changed.

So unless the PS4 has some huge advantage over the Xbox, I won't even give it my consideration.

I'm looking forward to the announcement but i really hope they don't have a heavy focus on the cloud, i like the idea of it for storing files, saves, settings etc but for streaming games. I really don't want that to be my backwards compatibility because we know full well that won't be free nor will it be as good.

Saying all this, i'll be there day 1 buying it. Unless they drop a bombshell like all the games will be cloud based, no physical copies at all.

i lost interest since sony decided to pull some advertised features with firmware updates,

because i'm sure that other major console vendor will follow suit.

its give me feeling that i only 'rent' the console, not actualy own them.

I'm in the "still interested" category. I've owned just about every console (skipped the crazy expensive ones at the time like 3do, jaguar, turbo gr16). So I already have the wii u and will be picking up the ps4, xbox 720, and certainly a steambox eventually. I dont even game that much but I also dont want to miss out on an 1st party exclusives. My biggest issue will be trying to find empty hdmi ports on my receiver...

Generally, I'm a pc gamer. I buy most my games from steam because its very economical, and easy.

I skipped last generation only because the lack of mods/software enhancements/etc.

Previous to that I had a soft-modded first gen xbox with a 180Gb HDD, and custom dashboard. I still use it because it plays all my classic roms, has a functional movie player, and is generally easy enough for my fiancee to navigate.

When I upgrade to a smart TV, i'll most likely retire the old xbox.

As far as next gen? I'm on the fence, again. Depends on how draconian the manufactures make the devices. No game resell is a deal breaker for sure.

I've been gaming much less for the past few months or so (coincidently, when i became a parent :p) but i'm still interested in the new consoles as i've been moving away from PC gaming for a while now. The reason being that there's not many PC exclusives that interest me at the moment (although this will change when SimCity is released) and i'm not someone who wants the best graphics all the time.

I've always been a PC gamer but picked up the xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2007 / 2008. While I enjoyed some games; mainly racing on xbox 360 and fighting on PS3, I found I didn't use the consoles that much after a while. I perfered gaming on the PC. So I don't really care for the new consoles, although I hope they push the graphics to next gen levels.

That PC won't even play the latest games in max detail let alone ones in 2, 5 or 10 years.

Not especially, no. I've never been much of a console gamer after the N64 or so. I do own a couple of original XBoxes which are used exclusively for XBMC on a couple older non-HD TV's (cheaper than building another set of HTPC's), one Wii which my daughter occasionally plays, but otherwise no interest. Missing out on a couple exclusive titles maybe (and I certainly won't get one of each console just to get them all), but really doesn't offer anything I don't get on the PC but better. Was somewhat originally interested in the Wii-U, was hoping for a new Zelda title based on that older demo render Nintendo put out last year, but after hearing it's another GameCube remake, I'll pass, played it in an emulator quite some time back. Throw on the rumors of even heavier-handed DRM, etc, no thank you.

Neither will current or next gen consoles in a few years time. :/

And it plays BF3 fine, I'd imagine it could run Crysis 3 on Ultra and anything else you can throw at it, sure you might need to lower the settings but it'll still look as good as console. ;)
