PC wont boot with normal FSB speed

i have a gigabyte 7av and if i leave the fsb speed on auto it wont boot, but if i turn it down then i get it to boot, but it makes my processor a 1800+ instead of a 2400+ which is what it is. what could this be

Get one :p find a crappy ol pc and 'borrow' it from there

...does your mobo not have a flash device? i can upgrade my bios through a flash bios program...i'd check the gigabyte website

i dowloadd that flash program but it wont work in 2k3

yeah - i hear you about the 2k3, i love 2k3, but you should try what he said about the compatibility mode.

Check your CPU - physically remove it from the socket and check it for damage. Nothing mentioned in the release notes for the BIOS updates and the 2400XP is on the CPU Support list.

Could be faulty - clear CMOS and try again.

yeah, default your cmos and try it out. usually weird stuff happens if you have the wrong setting in there. it's worth a shot! ;)

ok, i defaulted the cmos and its still dont work, and the chip is fine. and the board supports out of the box up to 2500+

Next thing I would do is check and double check the jumper / dip switch settings on the board - make sure that you aren't missing something.

After that - I'd probably RMA the board :)

Try changing your BIOS settings. This worked for me. Just turn down the hertz.
