Recommend a new mouse

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, This is a subject I'm pretty fussy on. Mice; My long old friend my Logitech G7 is dying/dead. After having it for about 5 years now I dropped it about 6 months ago and broke the scroll wheel, Since then it has been getting worse like a retarded dog nearing the end of it's life span. Every now and again it decides to stop tracking until I unplug the dongle and plug back in or decides to double click instead of single once every 3-4 clicks.

SO. Time for a new one. What do you guys recommend? I'm pretty fussy and would like something exactly the same and I GUESS I could give wired a try. My G7 batteries still last a day of use each which isn't bad considering it's age. I like the looks of the Logitech G400, Not bothered about number of buttons as long as it has browser back, left and right click and a scroll wheel (which will be weird to start using again)

Thanks

Nicholas-c

I have both the Logitech Performance MX and G700.

The Performance MX is an excellent mouse. I don't think a more comfortable mouse could exist. :)

The G700 is nice too if you want a gaming mouse with lots of sensitivity and buttons.

If you want cordless and an alternative to a Logitech (which are pretty good mice) you could look at the R.A.T. 9 which has two rechargeable batteries and you can customise the mouse to your hand and weight preferences

http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/rat9.htm

Might be expensive though, alternatively a R.A.T. 7 is also really good, but its corded, and cheaper

Edit. Your clicking issue is due to wear and tear on the switches used in the mouse buttons, all mice will suffer from this if they are used for long enough (depending on the quality of the micro switches) as its caused by "bounce" when the switch is "Clicked"

if you are handy with a soldering iron you could replace the switch yourself, however the other issues with the mouse kind of makes it a pointless exercise :)

I use a Logitech Gaming mouse the G5

had it since 2005 and still going strong

I also have a G5, love it to death. But it is also dying. Sometimes when I turn the wheel it just keeps turning all the way until the screen or folder reaches the end. Am also looking at a new mouse.

I tried the Touch Mouse T620, but don't like it. Haven't used for more than a day :( When you use the gestures from left to right, the mouse also moves, you have to hold it so that the mouse itself doesn't move on the pad. The problem is, you have to apply some pressure to it so that it registers, but it is enough to push the mouse away. It looked great in the box, but not very practical for me. Also, I noticed that it jumps a lot and isn't very precise. Maybe I have too much wireless signals messing up the connection.

Anyway, I also found the Logitech G line refresh (more in the link below) and will probably wait until they are available. The G500 looks the closest to my G5, don't care for all the programmable buttons, back and forth is enough for me.

I bought an MX518 long ago and when it broke I cycled through a bunch of different mice: the G700, the G9x, and finally the G400.

The G700 was comfortable but a bit too heavy for me. The batteries didn't last all that long either, and while I could use it wired that defeated the purpose of buying it.

The G9x is a good mouse for claw grippers, but seeing as you've come from a G7 you're probably a palm gripper.

The G400 has the same shape as the MX518 and the G7, and ended up being the perfect mouse for me. It sounds like it'd be a great fit for you, too! I love that they transitioned to a matte finish this time around; it feels much better than the glossy finish the MX518 (and G7 apparently) had. It's a fantastic mouse and I highly recommend it!

Had the same mouse since 2005. Never have a wanted or needed another mouse. I've used the G500 and imo it's not as good, feels cheaper, though they are similar.

I use the MX518 at the moment and it's a great mouse. If I was to recommend a mouse, I'd say the G400 or above (not the G500 though as I've heard that it doesn't last very long with the clicking mechanism that isn't very durable).

I've got the G700 and it's been just awesome for me. A lot of people don't like the textured sides so do try before you buy.

For those complaining about the battery life, if you aren't a twitch gamer, dropping the polling down from the max more than doubles the battery life in my usage.

I was a little worried about the new Logitech product refresh till I took a look at the PR release. It appears that all the G700s has that the G700 doesn't is a new paint job with a goofy stylized 'G' on top of it. I think I'll wait till the G700s is released & pick up a second G700 when they go on clearance.

I <3 <3 <3 my G700. Mine has been perfect. I even dropped it on a hard surface a couple times and it's fell off my desk a few and bounced off my computer case and UPS a couple times and still works great. LGS is rock solid software as well!

I recently bought Mionix NAOS 8200. It's good, but I haven't done much gaming where it has been able to shine. I'll try it out more at a later date.

I found good reviews so I bought it.

The mouse fits my hand and it feels great!

I love it. The light from the mouse can change color and be switched off, section by section.

My SteelSeries Ikari Optical felt very cheap and it began double clicking so I had to buy a new mouse.
