Windows 1.0 logo has been copied by HTC

Recommended Posts

It's like they took off the corners, changed the aspect ratio, changed the position of the vertical line and the spacing of the horizontal lines, changed the hue and...

Yeah, no, they made a new icon using 4 rectangles. This isn't copying.

This is, in fact, copying. People saying otherwise are the sort of people who would probably think it's totally legitimate to start a computer company with an apple logo as long as the leaf is going off at a different angle and the bite had teeth marks.

It may be copying or it may be a case where HTC created something they thought was original only to find it looks like the Windows logo. It's hard to create something truly new since everything we have ever seen or heard affects us, sometimes subconsciously.

The copyright for the logo expired. Anybody can use it. If a copyright is expired, then technically nobody is copying it, but rather, using it. At the same time, HTC cannot sue anyone if someone uses the logo since now it is in public domain.

Copyrights last 24yr or more depending on work, author and renewals. So I assume it expired.

Please tell me you're joking... or being sarcastic...

screw the logo, look at those live tiles. And what about copying Nokia colors with their phones? People can say yeah colors have been used before, but they decided to use colors as soon as Nokia started doing it? What about their ultrapixels lowlight crap? **** HTC,no wonder they're going down the ******.

Awful lot of anger. And Nokia wasnt worried about the colors, why are you?

This logo was GREAT. Microsoft should bring it back someday for a new version of Windows ;) Good find TS

I actually thought the 1.0 logo, squared off and each smaller square filled in with the usual palette of colors would have been a great Win8 logo. A callback to the original release of Windows while still moving away form the "flag" motif.

    • It's expensive, but I bet it will still sell out just like the Steam Deck and the Steam Controller
    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
