But It was working on my iPhone 4 yesterday.

Yes, but you upgraded your phone - so it stopped working. Basically, anyone who had it pre-configured on their device BEFORE Jan 30th, they were fine. Anyone setting it up after than (upgrade phone, restore etc) it will cease to work.

That's stupid. Does the gmail app push?

My Iphone 4 worked with push last night, but not on my new one

It's totally on google side. If you would have purchased your new phone in January this wouldn't be a problem because google was still accepting new devices. It was per device, not user.

Everyone is eventually going to have a problem with this as they upgrade their phone. I'm on the fence about changing my email over it. The gmail client is OK, but isn't as quick to load as the stock mail client even on the 5. Idk... I've had my gmail account since beta and SO many accounts are tied to it. Blah.

Google as was said doesn't support EAS anymore so new accounts have to use the Gmail app or only do IMAP from it. Sux but blame Google in this one, can't blame Apple or Microsoft this time around!

Not per-account, it is per-device.

Your best bet is to get the official Gmail app. That's what we all use now. Either that or mailbox app or sparrow.

Sparrow doesn't support PUSH unless you jailbreak and install Sparrow+. I'm a little mistified by what Sparrow+ is doing to get PUSH working, but it works.

More-or-less the official GMail app works just fine. Just have Mail app setup with GMail via IMAP/SMTP for when you share something like a photo.
