ngc891
The unspeakable has happened... My surface fell off my lap at work and the screen has cracked, I am so very cross with myself. Is there anywhere in the UK that would be able to repair it? Only had it for a couple of months and it has been my full time work companion. Please help!! Probably best to talk to Microsoft either at the store, through their website or customer care phone #. So did it fall face down?

rfirth
is there any Microsoft store in the UK? The likelihood of a MS Store being anywhere near Leeds... lol :p No, but I read they are supposed to open on in London soon. Which doesn't help OP because that's very far away, but does answer your question. And to OP, I have no idea. I guess that means you didn't buy the accidental coverage? ngc891 1 Share
ngc891
Yeah, fell off my lap as I was making a quick note with the touch keyboard. Fell face down... There are no Microsoft stores in the UK I actually bought it in CEX so no... No coverage available.
AsherGZ
I thought the Surface build quality was tougher than that. Wasn't there a guy who posted an image of a working Surface after a car ran over his device? Plus that whole stunt with Sinofsky using it as rollerblades. Probably fell 40-50centimeters... I'm still upset with myself.

Detection
I was going to suggest buying the parts and replacing it yourself but then I found this http://www.itpro.co.uk/mobile/19184/microsoft-surface-pro-almost-impossible-repair Looks like you can get the screens though http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Microsoft-Surface-LCD-and-Digitizer-Assembly-p-24231.html

Torolol
probably you'll need to show the advertisement the video about surface 'durability' and then asking for replacement/guarantee at nearest Microsoft store ...

Therein lies the answer... it was just that, a stunt, like the indestructible screen on the lumia 800, guy hitting it with a hammer and nail, so fat, to this date, no store has let me try it, because as adults we all know, just like you do, what the reality of a test like that would actually be. To the OP Though a little dishonest, I'd think about telling your home insurance company it fell at home, and see if you can make a claim to have it repaired or replaced under your home insurance. Hopefully should something awful happen again i will have a replacement! Detection
I feel like I read somewhere that disassembling the Surface isn't a walk in the park. I posted a link earlier saying the same thing unfortunately, not impossible, but not a laptop job either -------- Not a full disassembly but might help
ngc891
From the cnet video i saw earlier i reckon it doesn't look too bad, though they could be famous last words... Easier than the pro which is glued shut. Thanks for the help dudes, even though it hasn't been particularity good news!
linsook
I personally think it easier with the pro since all you have to do is heat it up, pull of the screen slowly, rip off the cables, and put the new one on, without going through all these small parts and pieces. Good luck.
