I found this great website which instructs you how to block IE 10. I had it installed and then my screen started to go black and then BSOD's. My games would not play. What you need to do is to remove the following Updates that were pushed the last Patch Tuesday. Now this is applicable to Windows 7SP1 and Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 . I have had no problems since I did this. The Updates are:

KB2670838

KB2729094

KB2731771

KB2533623

KB2786081

After you perform go to this website and follow the directions:

Download Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 10 from Official Microsoft Download Center

This may help someone. I do not believe that IE 10 is ready for Windows 7.

It helped me, my screen kept going black and my games would crash and then BSOD. One of those updates was for a Mouse/Keyboard program that replaced the Itype and Ipoint. Well the include mouse gestures are for windows 8 and when I moved my mouse during a game it would freeze up and then crash. I have had zero problems with this. I did run IE 10 for about 45 minutes and it is fast but I will wait some time before trying it again, if ever.

I'm on Vista; I don't get to have problems with IE10 because Microsoft doesn't want to support Vista anymore despite it being 95% similar to 7, yay.

No, I'm not happy; because that includes updates to things like DirectX and other extremely useful technologies.

Is that enough of a reason to switch over? If you're me: Hell no.

Win7 is MUCH better than Vista. I haven't tried IE10 much except on the Surface. IE9 was MUCH better than IE 8, though.

Windows 7 is a worthwhile upgrade from vista but avoid any os from microsoft that has come out after windows 7 SP1.

From a technical standpoint; yes. (Though 'much better' is stretching the truth. It's not a 95 -> 98 or 98 -> XP or XP -> Vista change. It's more a 98 -> 98SE or ME -> XP. Microsoft could've easily done the same thing they did for 98SE, but nope; not the same company they were back then and they wanted to get away from the Vista 'failure', which was severely overblown.)

From a usability standpoint; no.

See the link in my original comment as to why. (The same also applies to IE8 vs 9)

Hell, this even applies to tons of software, games and websites! It's rare I ever see a UI overhaul that is actually a welcome change from the previous one.

By comparison, Windows 8 is far superior on the kernel side than 7; but the usability is a complete insult for people like me.

Of course. 8 is a complete failure of a desktop OS and Blue is going to be more of the same. I run 7 on a VM despite my detest for it (mainly to try UI mods and run things on a non XP system, which was my main VM); I would never consider running 8 at all at any point in time on any desktop machine I own, even in a VM.

I will be using Windows 8 though if I ever get a tablet or otherwise touch enabled device; though considering I have a $3,000+ PC and have no need for mobile devices, I doubt that will ever happen. But hey, ever is a long time and 8 will probably be deprecated by then!

Your opinion, and the fact is people don't like change. But sometimes we have to, or we would still be riding horses ;-)

Again, your opinion. For my mom it's a godsend. So YMMV.......

    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
    • The only difference here is that you think you came up with these reasons. You didn't. These age old fearmongering lies (that were NEVER true) were funded by and the anger stoked by Putin through proxies like Farage (and later in the USA, Trump) and filtered down through the skinheads, Neonazis, etc. until it reached the uninformed, ignorant, and gullible -- never realizing they were being played for fools against their own best interests. Even now, despite all of the EVIDENCE proving that Brexit was a terrible mistake for ALL citizens of the UK and that its supporters were tricked by Putin's proxies into sabotaging their own nation, you're still here defending these well-known lies as if they were ever true. Not only are they not true. They NEVER were. So, when are you going to realize that you were lied to and actually get angry at the liars and charlatans who lied to you, instead of blaming the innocent people they lied to you about?

    • Ooooh! Two editorial from Paul Hill on the same day! Is it my birthday or something? 😉 Okay, let's see if I get it right. SearXNG develops a meta-search engine app. Individuals install it on their relays. Users connect to these relays to have their own identity-stripping meta-search engine instead of relying on DuckDuckGo. And some of these volunteers have listed their SearXNG instances on SearX.space. That was a lot of wrap my head around. I hope I haven't missed anything.
