Love both, 8 on my PC , 7 on my laptop.

Like the desktop better on 8, looks nicer and love the improvements, I find 8 faster than 7.

If ur not happy with 8, stick on 7, plain and simple.

ill go with xp... since it has hardware accelration for GDI.. so the website scrolling is much faster in xp than 7 or 8 which both feel slow unless you are using internet explorer. browsing is a major task so overall feel of the OS much snappier if browsing/scrolling is seemless and real fast.

Most browsers do use Direct2D now when possible. GDI causes problems and doesn't map to current GPUs well for acceleration. Many apps also use WPF (via .NET) or DirectX and don't touch GDI.

Furthermore, GDI was already deprecated in Windows XP and replaced with GDI+, which looked far better but was far slower rendering. (Needless to say, Direct2D doesn't have these problems...nor does WPF.)

So, they're right. You might have some GDI apps which will be better in XP but GDI should be abolished.

(Also note as per that Wiki that Windows 7 and 8 do hardware accelerate GDI to some degree.)

Which one is the best. I used both windows. No doubt about it that windows 8 has many amazing features than windows 7 but my experience and other windows user says that windows 8 work slow and windows 7 works very fast. Whats your opinion?

subjective opinions aside, if your Windows 8 is noticeably* slower than Windows 7 on the same hardware then you should check your hardware/drivers.

*As in something you can feel in daily use and not care about fractional differences in benchmarks.

not that there is any dearth of people promoting stupidity and hate on neowin but you are the winner of the day sir!

windows vista/7/8 are all downgrades. if you want to stay where you are and not go backwards then stick to xp until microsoft releases windows 10 or 11 which hopefully gets their act together.

as you can see the people who dissed vista are now saying wait a minute maybe vista wasnt as bad as we thought(1)... why do they think like that? because vista/7/8 is the same thing. (2) except windows 8 has further added insult to injury by going for metro ui in desktop area. same guys who said we dont need start menu etc. have industry research say we do indeed need it. (3)

staying in denial is not a good idea.

Nice idea there but I'd rather not go back to horrible tearing windows on XP. I think I'll take "laggy scrolling" (which hasn't been a problem since 2007?) over all other problems that come with XP (not even talking about security).

Expecting XP users to learn anything is probably a fools errand, but I still keep trying.

Windows 8 is simply just to shocking of a difference for most casual users who are used to what Windows used to look like. I don't think Windows 8 is anything like noticeably slower, but it's a major cluster mess!!

Definitely don't even want any touch screen crap for my every day use either!! I don't work in a grocery store either, which is about the type environment that thing was designed for!!

unhun.... i think you guys have forgotten XP in your zeal for the 'supposed' latest and greatest and the graphics issues havent been fixed in vista/7/8. The winner is amply clear when you dual boot.

this is still truth to this day........

and worse bugs in windows 8

IF XP x64 wasnt such a crash ###### i would never move from it.

The winner is amply clear when you use multi-monitor, dock/undock your laptop without needing a shutdown/reboot, memory management when you have various apps running for days, dragging windows over a hung app, SSD in laptop/desktop, use desktop search, like+use keyboard shortcuts, pin_rearrange taskbar buttons and many others.

So as I said, I would rather have these than minor graphical glitches in Firefox/Chrome/device manager (Firefox is my secondary browser and I stopped installing+using Chrome).

Yeh, XP was totally better than Windows 98. It was even better than Windows 2000! Slightly.

This is not really true. In windows 7/8 GDI acceleration is deprecated in favor of the newer direct2d. I don't know what browser you are using, but if you are using a modern browser you should have hardware accelerated layers and smooth scrolling, which should perform even better. Both firefox and IE have this via direct2d and directx. Chrome has hardware acceleration too via opengl, but is lagging behind real far in the smooth scrolling department though (there's a flag you can enable but it still doesn't even work on all webpages and pales in comparison to firefox and ie's smooth scrolling :/)

a different way of presenting the start menu is a shocking difference?

heck, I'd venture to say that the visual difference going from XP to Vista was more shocking than from 7 to 8

      The flaw with this analysis is that this laptop has a cellphone CPU in it. In the Intel world, that would be an N150 and those are everywhere, even in low end laptops. You can get an N150 based NUC with 16GB RAM and 256GB-512GB SSD... NOT soldered in... for < $500 Canadian (around US$360). The problem is two fold: tech bloggers/writers on most tech site (like this one, ironically) overvalue Apple and apparently aren't in the same earnings class as most regular people. As a result, we get breathless articles about how everyone needs a folding phone when most people just cannot afford one... or really need one. And we get Apple used as the baseline metric regardless of whether that comparison makes any sense. If Dell or HP released a retail laptop with a cellphone motherboard, you'd be all over them for doing that - but Apple does it and it's genius. I see articles suggesting what Samsung - a company that basically started the foldable phone market and has built them for eight years - needs to do to compete with Apple's unreleased, unspecced and unseen folding phone. Sorry, no - if the Neo (really creative name there BTW - still, better than the Go, the other "creative" product name everyone's using) encourages PC makers to make cellphone laptops using lower end ARM processors, we all lose. It's a step backwards and a capitulation to the fact that semiconductor makers and computer OEMs (and tech bloggers) have totally lost the plot.
