From the ashes of THQ, Volition is back with its new masters Deep Silver, with the announcement of Saints Row IV. This time, the Saints set their sights on the entire United States, with players getting to become the President.

Oh, and aliens have invaded, and transported the Saints to a weird Steelport simulation. Because Saints Row really needed to be more ridiculous!

"Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. Utilize out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, players can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the greatest, most insane installment of Saints Row yet."

It'll be on store shelves August 20 in North America, and August 23 elsewhere.

Awesome. Odds it will be better and run more smoothly on the pc than the next GTA game? If Rockstar even bothers with a pc version..? I think the odds are good.

Rockstar isn't relevant any more. GTA4 was a technical disaster on all platforms - the console version had to run at a lower resolution and still had slow down, while the PC was an appalling port (despite being significantly delayed). As for the gameplay, it was pretty weak - it was only the narrative and presentation that stood out. It has yet to release any gameplay videos of GTA5 (usually a bad sign) and the footage so far looks incredibly dated.

I'm much more interested in Mafia III, Watch_Dogs and Saints Row IV.

As for the gameplay, it was pretty weak - it was only the narrative and presentation that stood out. It has yet to release any gameplay videos of GTA5 (usually a bad sign) and the footage so far looks incredibly dated.

I'm much more interested in Mafia III, Watch_Dogs and Saints Row IV.

Let's not forget they also missed a huge opportunity by not making a Red Dead Redemption port for the pc as well. Which likely would have been just as shoddy. So that may or may not have been a blessing in disguise. Still, I don't have a console so I would have bought it.

Yeah. Rockstar is too busy unloading trucks of money from Microsoft and Sony to worry about integrity or quality.

Never played any of the saints row games, but having super powers in an open world that looks to play a lot like what you would imagine GTA with super powers would be fun as hell...definitely considering buying this when it comes out....tempted to buy SR3 until then, but you don't get super powers in SR3, do you?

Max Payne 3 was decent, wasn't it? I have it, but haven't touched it yet.

You do in the sense that through playing the game you can eventually unlock god mode and unlimited ammo for weapons. I never finished the game though so I can't fully answer that question.

Yes and no. It was well-optimised and had decent graphics but the problem with it was that a lot of the cutscenes were pre-rendered at console quality (720p, low resolution graphics, no anti-aliasing, etc) and it was incredible jarring going from 2560x1600 maxed out to ultra-low res 720p. At first I thought the game was broken. Also, the levels were much smaller than GTA so there's no telling whether that performance will apply to GTA5. Not that it matters, as PC gamers are once again being treated like dirt by Rockstar.

Has a Mafia 3 been announced?

Yeah, and it's going to be a next-gen title. :)

First of all I've missed the Mafia 3 announcement /nerdgasm.

But a new Saints Row can only mean proper good fun - Sure the others have been flawed but the coop and ridicoulus things makes it worth the investment. Nothing better than moving down a bunch of people, creating total chaos, while dressed as a bunny. Though the Third was poorly optimized, as I often experienced horrendus FPS drops.

I thought Mafia II was a much better game than GTA4. Obviously Mafia II was more linear and the game environment wasn't as large but it had better gameplay, graphics, performance, presentation and narrative. The fact that Mafia III is going to be a next-gen title is even better. I'm also excited about Watch_Dogs, though it remains to be seen if the gameplay is an open as the videos make it seem. At least those developers treat the PC platform with respect, unlike Rockstar.

As for Saints Row 4, it just looks like more of the same. Which reminds me, I need to get back into Saints Row 3 - I didn't play much of it but I really quite enjoyed it.

You get some kind of super powers in a DLC ( The Trouble with Clones ) of SR3 and, of course, I approve this announcement :)

Err? The majority of people still use hard drives, and the assets on PC are much better quality.

I rather disagree.

Games like Far Cry 3 and Skyrim do just fine without the need for constant loading screens. And even if one were to accept that the pre-rendered cutscenes were required?which I don't?there is absolutely NO excuse for them being such pathetically low quality. Most YouTube videos are higher quality, which really is saying something. They were used to mask the performance limitations of consoles and should have been rendered in-game on PC.

Skyrim sure has high quality assets yeahhhhh

(and IIRC the only cutscenes in FC3 at all were the intro and ending, don't know though.)

Far Cry 3 had plenty of cutscenes and had much better graphics, all without needing to use pre-rendered cutscenes. And you deliberately ignored the other part of my post.

      Passkeys: Think of them like a broken heart necklace. Imagine one of those heart necklaces that breaks into two matching pieces. One person keeps one half, and the other person keeps the other half. With passkeys, the website has one half, and you have the other half. If the website gets hacked and someone steals its half, that stolen piece is useless by itself. It cannot unlock your account without your matching half. This particular heart necklace is one of a kind, there is only one in existence. Your half of the necklace has to be stored somewhere. It might be stored on your phone, tablet, computer, security key, or a password manager that can sync it between all your devices. A security key is a small physical device that you keep with you, kind of like a house key, car key, or flash drive. I would not usually recommend a security key as the first option for the average person. For most people, it is easier to use their phone, computer, or a password manager that can sync passkeys between their devices. A security key is more like a spare key you keep in a safe place, just in case you lose access to your other devices or your password manager. Some security keys plug into your computer. Some plug into your phone or tablet. Some get tapped against your device. The idea is simple: a security key can hold another passkey for the same website. Think of it like creating a second one-of-a-kind heart necklace for the same account. One necklace could be paired with your password manager, while another necklace could be paired with your security key. That means the website has more than one matching half on file. One half matches the passkey in your password manager. Another half matches the passkey stored on your security key. So, if you lose access to your phone, computer, or password manager, you would still be able to log in using the passkey stored on your security key. Think of it like keeping an extra special necklace piece on a tiny keychain, stored somewhere safe. The website still has the matching half for that security key, but your half is safely stored inside the little key. A passkey does not automatically exist on every device you own. Instead of your half of the necklace being locked to only one device, the password manager can securely sync that half to your other approved devices. For example, Apple Passwords and iCloud Keychain can sync passkeys between your Apple devices. Google Password Manager can sync passkeys with your Google account. But password managers such as 1Password and Bitwarden can sync passkeys between everything, your phones, tablets and computers. Now, you might ask: “What happens if I lose access to the device that has my passkey?” That depends on where your passkey was saved and what recovery options the website gives you. If your passkey was synced through a password manager, you may be able to sign in from another device that has access to that same password manager. For example, if your passkey is saved in iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password, or Bitwarden, another approved device may still have access to it. If your passkey was saved only on one phone, computer, or security key, and you lose that device, then you may not have your half of the necklace anymore. In that case, you would usually need to use the website’s backup login or account recovery options. A lot of websites that support passkeys still let you fall back to your regular password. So if you lose access to your passkey, the site may still let you log in with your password, a code sent to your email, a text message, a recovery code, or some other account recovery process. That is convenient, but it is also important to understand: if the website still allows password login, then your password still matters. Passkeys are safer than passwords, but if your account still has a password as a backup, you should still use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication if the website offers it. It only needs proof that your half matches its half. Your actual half is not handed over to the website. This is different from a password. With a password, you type the secret into the website. If you type it into a fake website, the hacker now has it. With a passkey, you are not typing your secret into the website. Your device is proving you have the matching half without giving the half away. That also helps protect you from fake websites. If someone makes a fake login page that looks like the real site, your device can tell it is not the real match. It will not use your passkey there. Now, could someone use your passkey if they stole your device, got into your password manager, or somehow unlocked the safe that holds your half? Yes, that is why your device password, PIN, fingerprint, face unlock, and password manager security still matter. But a hacker cannot just steal your passkey from the website or trick you into typing it into a fake page like they can with a password. That is why passkeys are safer than passwords. The two matching pieces have to come together, like two lovebirds who were once separated and are finally reunited.

      I heard from a lot of people that driver support for the latest games when RDNA first came out (Radeon 5000 series) was pretty bad, but if you didn't buy the card on day one, or were not trying to play the latest titles, then you were isolated from that issue. Other than that, it's been good and only getting better.
