From the ashes of THQ, Volition is back with its new masters Deep Silver, with the announcement of Saints Row IV. This time, the Saints set their sights on the entire United States, with players getting to become the President.

Oh, and aliens have invaded, and transported the Saints to a weird Steelport simulation. Because Saints Row really needed to be more ridiculous!

"Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. Utilize out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, players can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the greatest, most insane installment of Saints Row yet."

It'll be on store shelves August 20 in North America, and August 23 elsewhere.

SR3 was pretty fun/wacky. I approve of this.

Awesome. Odds it will be better and run more smoothly on the pc than the next GTA game? If Rockstar even bothers with a pc version..? I think the odds are good.

Rockstar isn't relevant any more. GTA4 was a technical disaster on all platforms - the console version had to run at a lower resolution and still had slow down, while the PC was an appalling port (despite being significantly delayed). As for the gameplay, it was pretty weak - it was only the narrative and presentation that stood out. It has yet to release any gameplay videos of GTA5 (usually a bad sign) and the footage so far looks incredibly dated.

I'm much more interested in Mafia III, Watch_Dogs and Saints Row IV.

Let's not forget they also missed a huge opportunity by not making a Red Dead Redemption port for the pc as well. Which likely would have been just as shoddy. So that may or may not have been a blessing in disguise. Still, I don't have a console so I would have bought it.

Yeah. Rockstar is too busy unloading trucks of money from Microsoft and Sony to worry about integrity or quality.

Never played any of the saints row games, but having super powers in an open world that looks to play a lot like what you would imagine GTA with super powers would be fun as hell...definitely considering buying this when it comes out....tempted to buy SR3 until then, but you don't get super powers in SR3, do you?

Max Payne 3 was decent, wasn't it? I have it, but haven't touched it yet.

Has a Mafia 3 been announced?

You do in the sense that through playing the game you can eventually unlock god mode and unlimited ammo for weapons. I never finished the game though so I can't fully answer that question.

Yes and no. It was well-optimised and had decent graphics but the problem with it was that a lot of the cutscenes were pre-rendered at console quality (720p, low resolution graphics, no anti-aliasing, etc) and it was incredible jarring going from 2560x1600 maxed out to ultra-low res 720p. At first I thought the game was broken. Also, the levels were much smaller than GTA so there's no telling whether that performance will apply to GTA5. Not that it matters, as PC gamers are once again being treated like dirt by Rockstar.

Yeah, and it's going to be a next-gen title. :)

First of all I've missed the Mafia 3 announcement /nerdgasm.

But a new Saints Row can only mean proper good fun - Sure the others have been flawed but the coop and ridicoulus things makes it worth the investment. Nothing better than moving down a bunch of people, creating total chaos, while dressed as a bunny. Though the Third was poorly optimized, as I often experienced horrendus FPS drops.

Yeah, and it's going to be a next-gen title. :)

I missed it too. I suck. I am usually on top of announcements/reveals.

I thought Mafia II was a much better game than GTA4. Obviously Mafia II was more linear and the game environment wasn't as large but it had better gameplay, graphics, performance, presentation and narrative. The fact that Mafia III is going to be a next-gen title is even better. I'm also excited about Watch_Dogs, though it remains to be seen if the gameplay is an open as the videos make it seem. At least those developers treat the PC platform with respect, unlike Rockstar.

As for Saints Row 4, it just looks like more of the same. Which reminds me, I need to get back into Saints Row 3 - I didn't play much of it but I really quite enjoyed it.

You get some kind of super powers in a DLC ( The Trouble with Clones ) of SR3 and, of course, I approve this announcement :)

I believe the game was also loading assets in the background during those cutscenes.

I believe the game was also loading assets in the background during those cutscenes.

And I can completely understand the necessity of that on consoles but there's no excuse for it on PC.

Err? The majority of people still use hard drives, and the assets on PC are much better quality.

I rather disagree.

Games like Far Cry 3 and Skyrim do just fine without the need for constant loading screens. And even if one were to accept that the pre-rendered cutscenes were required?which I don't?there is absolutely NO excuse for them being such pathetically low quality. Most YouTube videos are higher quality, which really is saying something. They were used to mask the performance limitations of consoles and should have been rendered in-game on PC.

Skyrim sure has high quality assets yeahhhhh

(and IIRC the only cutscenes in FC3 at all were the intro and ending, don't know though.)

Far Cry 3 had plenty of cutscenes and had much better graphics, all without needing to use pre-rendered cutscenes. And you deliberately ignored the other part of my post.

    • Anthropic introduces Claude Tag, a new AI teammate for Slack by Fiza Ali Anthropic has announced Claude Tag, a new feature that lets teams work with Claude directly inside Slack. The idea is simple: once Claude is added to a Slack workspace and given access to selected channels, users can tag @Claude in conversations and assign tasks. Claude can then work through those requests using connected tools and data sources before posting its results back into a Slack thread. What makes Claude Tag different from a typical chatbot is that it's designed to operate as a shared assistant for an entire team rather than a single user. Everyone in a channel interacts with the same Claude instance. This allows the team members to see ongoing work and continue tasks started by others. Furthermore, Anthropic says the AI can build context over time by following conversations in channels where it has permission to operate. This means users don't have to repeatedly provide the same background information for every request. The system is also designed for asynchronous work. Instead of waiting for responses in a chat window, users can assign a task to Claude and return later once the work is complete. Anthropic says Claude can break larger requests into multiple steps and use connected tools to complete them. Moreover, the system can also schedule follow-up tasks and continue working on projects over extended periods. Another feature allows Claude to keep the users updated and follow up on unresolved tasks when its optional "ambient" mode is enabled. The company says the tool is already being used internally for software development, data analysis, support workflows, and debugging. According to Anthropic, around 65% of its product team's code is now generated through its internal version of Claude Tag. For organisations concerned about security, administrators can control which channels, tools, and data sources Claude can access. Separate Claude instances can also be configured for different departments, helping keep information isolated between teams. Administrators can also monitor activity logs, review completed tasks, and set spending limits at both the organisation and channel level. Claude Tag is now available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers and runs on Claude Opus 4.8 that was announced this May. The feature will also replace Anthropic's existing Claude in Slack application, with current users able to migrate within a 30-day migration window. Lastly, eligible customers will receive introductory credits to help teams evaluate the new experience.
    • Beats Studio Pro wireless over-ear ANC headphones drop to their lowest price yet by Fiza Ali Amazon is currently offering the Beats Studio Pro headphones at their all-time low price. The Studio Pro use 40mm active drivers which are designed to improve clarity and reduce distortion compared to previous models, with up to an 80% improvement over the Beats Studio3 Wireless. A built-in digital processor adjusts frequency response to keep the sound balanced rather than overly boosted in any one area. Furthermore, the headphones support personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking as well as Dolby Atmos playback on supported content. Moreover, built-in voice-targeting microphones improve call quality. You can also switch between three sound profiles including Beats Signature for balanced music playback, Entertainment for films and gaming, and Conversation for clearer voice in calls and podcasts. Physically, they are designed to be worn for long periods without feeling heavy or awkward. The ear cushions use UltraPlush engineered leather while metal sliders allow you to adjust the fit. On the connectivity side, the Studio Pro use Class 1 Bluetooth for a stable, long-range wireless connection. There is also a 3.5mm input if you want to plug in directly, including use with in-flight entertainment systems. Controls are located on the headphones and include a "b" button for music and call control, a volume rocker, and a multifunction button used for switching listening modes, EQ settings, power, and pairing. In addition, the headphones offer integration with both Apple and Android devices. On Apple devices, they support one-touch pairing with iCloud-linked devices, hands-free Siri access, Find My tracking based on last connected location, and automatic software updates. On Android devices, they support Google Fast Pair, Audio Switch between compatible devices, and Google Find My Device tracking, with additional features available through the Beats app. When it comes to the battery performance, it is rated at up to 40 hours of listening time with ANC turned off, and up to 24 hours with ANC or Transparency mode enabled. A 10-minute Fast Fuel charge should provide up to 4 hours of playback. Finally, the headphones use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and charge via USB-C.
