I've been using ImgBurn to create and burn Audio CD's. I've been making loads of them and suddenly I can no longer do so.

ImgBurn spends ages at the Writing LeadIn section, whilst my burner vibrates tremendously loudly. Eventually it gets to the verify stage and says "Error: The layouts do not match!". I then discover that the CD is still blank. Sometimes, but more rarely, it will burn something but windows won't be able to read it.

I have encountered this issue before but usually trying again eventually works.

I'm under the impression that it's my burner that's broken as I have tried other software to no success.

Or does it not like the CD-R's I'm using?

Hi Harreh,

Please take the following steps to resolve your problem:

  1. Try burning with another application. (Hint:give windows media player or the built in windows cd burner)
  2. Try another CD-R. (Hint: also try another brand of CD as well)
  3. Try cleaning out the eye of the drive (Hint:use one of those cleaning discs with the guy with the sexy voice)
  4. Try taking your drive out of your computer and taking it apart and cleaning the eye with a q-tip (Hint:put the drive back into the computer when you're done)
  5. Try taking the drive out and beating it with a long sausage (Hint: use ones from the deli that have past shelf life for a major discount or even free)
  6. Try taking it for a spin around the block (Hint:place it in a microwave for about 15 minutes)
  7. Try taking it for a drive (Hint:rent a big mean dualie truck or get a BIGFOOT MONSTER TRUCK and run it over)
  8. Try taking it to the next level (Hint:pack some heat)

If the above steps do not work then you're screwed.

Try taking the drive out and beating it with a long sausage (Hint: use ones from the deli that have past shelf life for a major discount or even free)

ROFL!!

I have salvaged two optical drives from old broken laptops. It's quite a tricky operation to do it neatly and properly.

The front panel with the keyboard needs to be removed, but is attached to the motherboard with very short wires. There is a whole manner of hidden screws and catches and whatnot.

One of the drives is slot loaded and should work. The other is tray loaded but does not open when you put a pin in the hole to release the catch

I have tried CDBurnerXP and after 7 minutes it gives an error suggesting the inserted media is not compatible or of poor quality. The disc is left blank.

The discs I'm using are TDK brand.

Foobar says: "Audio CD burning process failed: Recorder command timeout (0xC0AA020D)"

Got about 60 audio CD's burnt with this burner and now it's decided to pack it in...

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • Fascinating...W h i t e P o w e r is now also asterisks out.
    • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
