MGM Says To Expect "Bond 24" Within The Next Three Years

In a conference call yesterday, MGM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Barber offered an update on the status of James Bond 24. Skyfall director Sam Mendes recently confirmed that he will not return to helm the follow-up, but an announcement in regards to who will replace him is apparently now on the way. "We are very excited about the franchise, we look forward to announcing a director soon," Barber told Reuters. "We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released." After Skyfall became the first movie in the 50 year old franchise to gross $1 billion at the worldwide box office, you would think that the studio would want to put the next one on the fast track, especially as Daniel Craig seemed to indicate during press for that movie that his time as 007 was nearing its end.

This is from Daniel Craig's wikipedia page:

On 8 September 2012, Bond producers announced Craig had signed on for two future Bond films and not five as previously reported. This would bring his total to five films, which would be two fewer than Roger Moore's record of seven.

I'm thinking it's time for Craig to step down and give someone else a go at the role.

Maybe time for Tom Hardy or Idris Elba to be chosen :p (yeah just my personal choices there)

Maybe it's time to let the franchise die, (didn't like any of Daniel Craig's bonds)

*As Dushmany spins in his chair with a Kity perched on his lap* No, James Bond Franchise... I expect you to die!

He can do two more easy, the large delay between QoS and Skyfall comes into play here. His age is going up so 2 movies works but if skyfall came sooner he'd have signed up for more I'm sure, at least 3. Seeing how big skyfall was at the box office the studio isn't in any rush to change actors.

I rate Daniel Craig alongside Sean Connery as one of the better Bonds. I'm glad he's doing another two but I think they should be looking for a holiday 2014 release and not 2015. He ain't getting any younger :p

I thought Skyfall was easily one of the best Bond films - certainly I'd rate it above Quantum Of Solace, which I thought was really poor. Craig is one of the better Bonds, though his style is obviously very different to that of previous actors. I would say that Brosnan was one of the weaker Bonds, with the exception of Goldeneye (which was originally due to be a Dalton film).

As for the next film, I'm really looking forward to it. It would be nice if it was a bit more light-hearted, which I think is possible given the new characters introduced in Skyfall.

I agree with all of this. I think Dalton gave up too soon and could have been a really good Bond.

To be fair, MGM messed him around for years. I do think that Goldeneye with Dalton would have been better and that it was only because the film was designed with Dalton in mind that it came out so strong. When they started writing films for Brosnan the franchise took a turn for the worse.

With the way skyfall ended we're in for some of the more classic bits to return. We finally have moneypenny, M is as we remember, and we have a Q. I can't wait to see how the next one works out.

Exactly. Based on the new line-up I'm hoping that the next film will be slightly more light-hearted, as Skyfall obviously had a very serious tone.

    • IBM are good at announcing stuff, but not at actually delivering it... How many decades ago did they announce quantum computers, and here we are in 2026, with CHINA delivering them, and IBM still talking...
    • It sounds like you’re trying to rewrite a narrative to align this layoff with your political beliefs. Games can be horrible, whatever backwards notions you have don’t change that bungie has problems, mostly with just bad games, and arrogance. When they pushed Microsoft to let them be independent they lost their way. They hired on a bunch of people and they couldn’t justify the employee count consistent with their revenue.
