[javascript] My browsers doesn't display js properly

I'm using Windows 8 with FF19

I'm beginning javascript and I can't seem to get it to work in any of my browsers (including IE), it just displays the same exact code I have typed (see attached)

any help would be cool

You're typing it into "design" view so presumably Dreamweaver will be encoding the < > to html entities < >. Either type into the "code" view, or better yet don't use Dreamweaver.
