Apple Patents Folder Creation Formula, Spells Trouble for Android

Recommended Posts

how the hell can a patent like this even be allowed to be created

on another note if Apple tries to attack Android with this (either directly or indirectly again) the patent will most likely be invalidated due to being prior art IN android

umm they haven't patented folders. they have patented the creation of "folders" on multi touch devices by dropping on item on another. something I actually believe they where first with so...

Sense is not allowed on the internet!

On a serious note, this patent should be allowed as its very specific (in that they are patenting the method of creating a new folder by dropping one item onto another on a multitouch device). This is specific enough for others to be able to make their own system of creating folders on a multitouch device (maybe a long hold and an options box popping out).

Still an absurd patent of a super obvious idea, this is why software patents should not exist.

so obvious no one else did it until afterwards, conventional wisdom was that drag and drop like this launched the first file in the second app.

Why are you so sure that Apple was the first? And aren't you supose to patent that **** before it's widely used?

This guy basically patented a tree branch, as an animal toy: http://www.google.co...tents/US6360693

Does it mean he was the first that used a real tree branch as a toy for his animal?

Read the patent, please:

This is a very specific method for creating a folder using a touch screen. Yes, it's a bit general and silly that they can patent such a thing, but the question should be whether Google introduced this concept/feature before Sept 22, 2010.

if they weren't then there's prior art and the patent is worthless. even worse, they just tipped off whoever did it first that they can patent it, they even wrote the patent for them.

The title of this thread should really be changed (going to report it) - it's overly sensationalist. As the linked article states, "Apple gets patents on folder creation on iOS, ..."

That is, specifically the mechanism that iOS introduced for dragging one icon onto another for creating a folder. Has anyone found prior art or is it just the Samsung camp getting their undies in a twist?
