Or maybe you could split it up into modules, the core with just the critical wondows updates e recomended fixes, other with microsoft extras, another with 3? party extras. etc...

Your install system seems flexible enough, all you need to do is make shure all this can be easely merged into one pach at the user computer for burning or distribution and everybody's happy.

I for instance would get:

AutoPatcher Core (windows critical updates, reg tweaks)

Microsoft Extras (msn messenger, powertoys, etc)

and nothing else

yea i like what DragonSoull said...:))

oh and myie2_user... i am on cable:pp

Yeah :p

I like his idea too, the core and then extra downloads you can add-on, as long as I can keep all this stuff in one program on one cd than it would be perfect ;) Just annoying to also download each freeware program, and this could help cut that down by a lot.

Yeah :p

That's a very good idea you guys have. Maybe when the Dec Update comes out I can have a Bonus Pack that you can get and integrate into the AutoPatcher (I don't think it would be at all difficult to do). :)

Keep up the awesome work, so far I used this 3 times, saves much time hehe ;)

Glad you all like it :D

Just to remind the few people who have strayed off-topic... all this thread is for is to discuss things to be included in the next release. I'm not namin' names... lol Just want to make sure this stay on topic (or how else will I be able to sort through it later? :p).

@myie2_user - Glad you're such a fan! :D

I recommend to add the follwing programs:

Daemon Tools

maybe a Codec pack with adfree divx, xvid etc.

RASPPPOE (better PPPoE driver)

and:

Program Name:

Total Copy v1-0

Program Description:

This program looks like Windows' own

"Copy" command, but it supports:

resuming, pausing, speedlimit, auto-

pause on any error, resuming on

any error, usually copies faster than

windows shows transfer speed(KB/Sec), shows a percent bar, shows bytes

remaining.

Hmmm... that's nice... I never heard of it... though that link seemed corrupt, this one worked for me:

Total Copy 1.1

That's something I will definately consider! (Y) Good job! :D

i think you should put an update feature in it and lets it download items that was not in the previous update.

Well, that's what the Update packs are. :) We may work on a slicker way of doing it, but technically it's already been implemented. :D

Anyways, I'm off to bed... keep those good ideas flowin'!

Here are a few more suggestions

can you enable the maximuze button on the installtion it make it easier to read the info

How about the ability to slipstream the whole packe into a Windows XP cd at a click of a button

How about the ability ti slipstream updates into the main installer at a click of a button

:D

@ Total Copy 1.1:

The original developer wepage seems to be down for a while now. (ca. 4 months). I hope it can do an unattended install..

the only problem i found so far is that it seems it cannot "translate" the "desktop\my documents" path in "c:\documents and settings\......".

OFF-TOPIC:

@ slipstream:

I've slipstreamed autopatcher into an windows xp installation cd and added office 2k3. works fine for me.

for that you will need the follwing programs:

windows cd

autopatcher

office 2k3

internet explorer ressource kit (if you want to include internet explorer config)

office ressource kit (to do the unattended config file)

windows setup manager (from windows cd or from http://www.betaplace.co.uk/unattend.asp

ive had to kill the variables from the autopatcher batch files, because i dunno if there is a environment variable for the windows cd source dir (i.e. e:\i386)

Okay, the November Update has been released, so it's time to start thinking of what we can put in the December Update!

I'll start you off:

1.  I'm adding MSN Plus! (I got approval)

2.  I'm adding the Flash Player

So let's hear your suggestions.  :)

Please note, this is for suggestions only, everything else should still be posted in the main thread.  :D

I have just one thing to add to this thread FlishFun (and you KNOW it's directed at you for even STARTING this thread)

:p

I requested these because for example this make it easier for people with min. knowledge to the commandlines or people short of time :D

Flishfun, perhaps I may be of some help in the suggestion about detecting currently installed hotfixes. I know that your Autopatcher doesn't really interface with Windows at all, it just runs batch files pointed to the hotfix with appropiate switches and such - anyway, I'm guessing that AutopatcherXP is done in VB, I'm pretty sure I dig up the appropiate code for an interface between the registry and your VB project (I managed to pull it off once many moons ago), and all you would need to do is check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\<kbnumberhere> to see if the key is present.

I hope you don't mind me infinging in this way, just offering a suggestion just in case it's helpful. :)

the GUI version is i think a bit more than just a front end... I suppose ill be able to handle the detection now that i 'know where to look' hehe...

Hope you don't mind post barrage in this thread FlishFun, but here's another idea..

About the batch files, maybe you could do away with them all together. I'm not saying remove support for batch files, that would be bad since it would mean people couldn't customize their copy of AutoPatcherXP, but for the default hotfixes, you could do that within the program with (and I'm working for memory here so I may be off) a command like

Shell (".\ProgFiles\Qwhatever.exe /q:a /R:N")

The only thing about that is I don't think the shell command supports long filenames, so you may need to make it..

Shell (".\progfi~1\Qwhatever.exe /q:a /R:N")

Also, a UI for creating custom entries into the AutoPatcherXP would be cool. You could probably pull it off like this..

First of all, make the UI for it, which is easy. Ask the user for the executable name (not it's location, inform the user through the UI that the file must be in the ProgFiles) and set the executable field input to say... $customfile. Make the UI ask for a alias (with no illegal characters, just alphanumeric), and we'll call that $alias. Once the user clicks OK for the generation of the custom batch..

$alias = $aliasbatch
$aliasbatch = $aliasbatch + ".BAT"

Then..

Open $aliasbatch For Output As #1
Print #1, "\ProgFiles\",$customfile
Close #1

And you could do the same thing for addition to the DAT file. This is a very basic and crude example on how it could be performed, but I thought I'd just say how I mean just in case.

Again, hope I'm not infringing FlishFun, just wanted to offer a suggestion. :)

well the problem here is that i dont use the Shell command... cause we need to wait until the process gives an exit code! So i tried using a simple ShellExecute (which would cause the interface to 'lag') and then decided to use a more tricked approach, which doesnt let me include any switches to the launched app, as it 'thinks' its part of the filename...

Well in the spirit of a addon pack has I sugested earlier,

one interesting adition would be DefilerPak [ http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak/ ], witch is a minimal codec pack for video playback.

edit: and what about the free mp3 encoder pack for WMP that was going around....

Christ I forgot to uncheck the uxtheme.dll patcher on the november update and computer would not boot or recover, installed windows 2000 to try to recover stuff but NTFS conflicts made me loose about 8gb of music. ****ing nightmare! Don't know what happened, my computer must hate me

    • Ladybird Browser is no longer accepting outside contributions thanks to AI by David Uzondu The Ladybird Browser Project has announced it will no longer accept public pull requests and will limit changes to those made by its maintainers as it works towards its first alpha release. According to Ladybird's creator Andreas Kling, this is "not a change we make lightly," but the rapid shift in AI capabilities forced their hand. Previously, a massive PR implied that the person behind it put a lot of care into the code and is ready to "answer for the consequences." Now with AI, anyone can generate a PR without even understanding the bug fix or feature they want merged. The blog post goes on to say that the team is closing all open public pull requests immediately, and that maintainers will not treat external forks as a review queue for upstream Ladybird. Instead, the team wants outside contributors to focus on reporting bugs and running tests. Kling started Ladybird back in 2019 as LibHTML, a simple HTML viewer for his hobby operating system, SerenityOS, but by September 2022, it had turned into a full-fledged browser project. What sets Ladybird apart from the likes of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox is its totally independent engine, which does not rely on pre-existing codebases. The project maintains a strict policy against default search engine deals or user data monetization, keeping development funded entirely by donations and sponsorships. Generative AI is forcing open source project maintainers to rethink how they handle public code contributions (and the whole open-source thing in general). One month ago, a leak about the National Health Service (NHS) suggested the organization was planning to take all of its public repositories private ahead of a May 11 deadline, thanks to Mythos (an AI model that Anthropic believes is too dangerous to be released to the public) and its ability to find and write exploits for zero-day vulnerabilities. Thankfully, the Government Digital Service (GDS) issued a counter-report titled "AI, open code and vulnerability risk in the public sector" that stopped the shutdown by pointing out that hiding code does not improve security.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
