Christ I forgot to uncheck the uxtheme.dll patcher on the november update and computer would not boot or recover, installed windows 2000 to try to recover stuff but NTFS conflicts made me loose about 8gb of music. ****ing nightmare! Don't know what happened, my computer must hate me :crazy:

you might get more mad when i tell you you COULD fix it! you just had to do this:

when pc boots i suspect you got a msg that explorer.exe cannot start... do Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up task manager, then start a enw task, give "cmd" to bring up the Command Prompt, now go to your system32 folder by doing cd %systemroot%\system32 and do a del uxtheme.dll

Now you only have to find an original uxtheme.dll to replace it... i was lucky enough to have a network running so i was able to copy the uxtheme.dll from my second network pc... and you would just have to reboot and see everything is fine...

The problem is really a glitch (i believe on purpose) by Microsoft... this is why SP2 does not support most of the currently available pathes... I suspect that the reason for this happening is that your system had many pre-sp2 fixes installed and ntoskrnl.exe reported 2600.xpsp2 hehe... prolly some kind of effort from MS to tighten up security in visual styles

Overview

The Tweakomatic is a nifty new utility that writes scripts that allow you to retrieve and/or configure Windows and Internet Explorer settings. So what, you might ask. Well, think about it. Because these are WMI scripts, they can be used to configure settings on remote computers. Need to change something on a remote machine? Then haul out the Tweakomatic. And think about this: because the Tweakomatic writes scripts, you could do something like run these scripts as logon or logoff scripts. In other words, you could quickly, easily, and automatically configure settings on any or all the computers in your organization.

P.S. And i wouldn't like to see Autopatcher XP becoming "Autopatcher XP & a bunch of 3d party software"

How would it looked if for example MS released SP2 with 50 other 3d party software, that *many* people use.

I personaly doesn't install any messengers, Javas and other useless stuff like codec packs, players, antispywares, etc. on work computers that even has no internet ;) and are used to work, not to watch movies ;)

Microsoft Tweakomatic Utility... I never heard of that, gonna check it out.

And as I said before, I just like seeing what people suggest. By no means am I choosing everything posted here. You probably won't see too much more, but if someone suggests something that I feel is a good addition, it'll go in. Don't worry about me bloating up the AP... I promise not to. :D

EDIT - Okay, that happens to be the FUNNIEST readme in the history of readmes... I think this should be downloaded just so you can read it. hahaha Here's a little quote from it:

what we have to do is figure out what you install on a fresh machine. i personally install winxp, patches, then i have to install 'powerarchiver" or some other zip,rar program so i can start gettin my programs off the cdrs and on the puter. Then i stop all the useless "services" . then i install startup control panel and startup monitor so i can stop all the crap loading up with windows.. then i have to manually remove msn messenger so it' will stop loading up with ie and outlook and word, etc..

:) then onto virus scan and spyware removals. oh the joy of reinstalling windows ;)

so what is crucial to you after installing windows? :)

My home installation is similar to yours, but after that i install another ~15GB of software, configure it, customize shortcuts, set permissions and so on...

It takes about 5 hours, to bring WinXP to working condition :)

And i don't think Autopatcher could do the job for me :laugh:

So i won't post the list of what i need :)

For example now i get *X-Files* activity more often, although, WinXP was installed on 06/06 ;)

However, Autopatcher fixed something and it works better now :D

Reinstall is posponed for several weeks, yeah! ;)

Since we're trying to stay legit/legal here.....you guys might wanna try out the Xvid codec....its an open source *free* version of the DivX codec....I use it all the time and it works great!!

Yeah...just a few of the things that make the OS more functional without adding bloat....you might want to check this out....

Windows Media Player Codecs

People are always getting "Error downloading Codec" or "Codec not found" messages with WMP8/9....here's a smallish download (free) from MS that will give you those codecs that should be with Windows to start with.

This update replaces the MS03-040: October, 2003, Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer (828750).

Please make sure to remove the MS03-040 from your batch list and any other cummulative IE Updates.

Umm, that update didn't change for XP.

They said they fixed a problem with the Windows 2000 update.

Note: The Windows XP security updates that released on October 15th as part of Security Bulletin MS03-043 (828035) include the updated file that helps protect from this vulnerability. If you have applied the Windows XP security updates for MS03-043 (828035) you do not have to reapply this update. However, the Windows 2000 security update that is released as part of this security bulletin contains updated files that were not part of the MS03-043 (828035) security bulletin. Customers have to apply this Windows 2000 security update even if they applied the Windows 2000 security updates for MS03-043 (828035).
