Please make sure to remove the MS03-040 from your batch list and any other cummulative IE Updates.

I will... in the Dec update, of course. :)

@OptiPlex - Oops, didn't notice that, thanks! :D

Since we're trying to stay legit/legal here.....you guys might wanna try out the Xvid codec....its an open source *free* version of the DivX codec....I use it all the time and it works great!!

Xvid Home Page

EDIT: spelling and URL update

Cool, I'll check it out... and as of right now, there are 3 new security patches that will be in the Dec Update:

Q810217 - Buffer Overrun in Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions Could Allow Code Execution

Q828035 - MS03-043: Buffer Overrun in Workstation Service Could Allow Code Execution

Q824145 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (November)

For those of you who has Office XP, then including Office XP patches will be a good idea. But well...naaahh...many people dont use it anymore.

Well, this AutoPatcher idea was already on my dreams and I am part happy to see that it exists, part sad to know now that is only for english XP versions :(

So, if it helps, and if it?s in need, I would be very happy to help on an translation for my mother language, Brazilian Portuguese.

If you guys that had this great idea needs a hand just yell me, no costs, no delays, not any kind of pay back need. I would be very happy to help in it just to have this great idea working for me and my m8s here in Brazil.

hey guys i have a great idea for this patcher, make 2 seperate patchers, one with alot of bloat, and one with windows updates

with the one with bloat its fine the way it is...

the one without bloat just add this:

Microsoft Windows XP Pre-SP2 Patches - Critical Updates

Microsoft Windows XP Pre-SP2 Patches - Recommended Updates

Microsoft Internet Explorer Patches

Microsoft Outlook Express Patches

Optional Windows Components- in it just these : any MSN Messenger updates, Windows Messenger Updates, MS Java updates, Sun Java Updates, DirectX updates, .net framework updates, Windows Media Player 9 updates, Windows Movie Maker updates, Microsoft Data Access Components updates, Jet 4.0 updates, MSXML updates, Microsoft SharePoint Migration Tool updates, Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer updates

just added the nov autopatcher to a bootable iso of winxp sp-1....

she's gonna life SOOO much easier... thanks!!

my vote is to keep the autopatcher "lowest common denominator"....

in other words... don't add too many 3rd party apps...

esp. the ones that tend to be VERY audience specific... (winamp, trillian, etc)...

small stuff like startup control panel would be great...

in fact while you're at it, might as well add a few other baseline tools...

-System Recovery Console

-ms clearmem.exe (copied to system32 dir)

-ms bootvis (maybe this one's not for everyone.... dunno?)

-and update the directx control panel to 9.0b

(file version should be 5.3.1.1126, not 4.8.0.400 currently in Nov Update)

again though...

I think the autopatcher should stay MS stuff only (other than the startup cpl) and not filled with apps that we can all burn to a disk ourselves...

If the filesize stays tolerable, I intend to keep a copy on a bootable winxp sp1 disk that I'll be using to clean install xp on MANY other pcs... not just mine...

tis me two cents....

fyi tho.... she's a real beaut! thanks!

Welcome to Neowin :)

ya know...

why not try this instead... to keep em all happy ;)

keep the autopatcher w/ "baseline" apps/tweaks as she is right now...

use the same gui/code to build a second tool called something like "autoinstaller" that contains all of the 3rd party apps...

not to make your life any harder... heh heh ;)

this should keep the autopatcher slim and "trustworthy" and still make life easy for anyone that clean installs their own pc often...

thanks again!

Actually... that could be a good idea. Hmmm... let me work with that a little! ;)

For December, please consider including a way to toggle off this item in Windows Media Player:

"Allow Internet sites to uniquely identify your Player."

It's my understanding that not everyone may want their WMP usage tracked.

Also, please consider reviewing Microsoft's schedule of releasing security updates (perhaps someone else on this list knows more than I do about this) and plan to release monthly updates shortly thereafter? -- so the current months' new M$ security updates can be included in the current month's AP update.

I like the idea of a 'core' setup and an 'extras' installer.

I appreciate everyone's work and enthusiasm on this subject. It's truly generous!!!

:) tom

Personally i would like to see the ata-66 tweak which i can send to anybody that needs it, and yeah i would second the idea of having the months windows updates included so maybe the schedule could be set for the day after the updates because people dont want to be too far behind critical updates.

The Fade in effect has to go, and have you thought of using the /o slash on all type 1 hotfixes (just the white icon) this speeds up install no end because it doesnt check for OEM files or sumthing im not exactly sure i just know it doesnt do any damage and speeds up install very much.

as for the diffrent packages i think the way the system is at the minute is perfect, i wouldnt add too many 3rd party applications because everyone has diffrent taste and preference and to please everyone you would need a file terrabytes in size.

well just my 2 cents anyways

    • I named Hitler because he is the de facto anti-semite. But you don't have to hate Jews to be a genocidal maniac. In fact, these days, so called semites are the ones acting in ways that would make Hitler proud.

    • Apple reluctantly forces strict new age checks on Texas users starting today by Paul Hill Apple will begin enforcing the Texas Age Assurance Law (SB 2420) following a recent court ruling that lifted an injunction on SB 2420. Starting June 4 (today), Apple will enforce strict age-verification and parental-consent rules for new Apple accounts created in Texas. This move will affect children under 18 who go to download apps or attempt to make in-app purchases. Apple previously expressed privacy concerns related to this law, but compliance is now mandatory for the company, nevertheless. Apple will use several APIs to follow the law. Principally, the Declared Age Range API will fetch the specific user age bracket (Under 13, 13-15, 16-17, or 18+) and a verification method. The Significant Change API (PermissionKit) will trigger a system dialog for parental consent if an app gets a major update or an age-rating shift. There is also a new property type in StoreKit that allows developers to automatically check when their app’s age rating has changed on a user’s device and then use the Significant Change API to request parental consent. Finally, App Store Server Notifications can be configured to tell developers when a parent revokes consent, blocking app launches. To ensure they are ready for these changes, developers must immediately use Apple’s sandbox testing environment to validate these APIs in their apps. For any developers out there finding this to be inconvenient, get used to it. Other regions, such as Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil, are looking at, or have implemented, similar rules.
