Nice nice... I think I'll compile all the suggestions so far and see which I think would be good to include in the AP. :) I'll keep you all posted.

@Jono - The fade will be out. In fact. AgEnTsMiTh is working on a new Menu now. :) I'll look into the "/o", never heard of it before. As for the rest, good suggestions... and there really won't be many 3rd party apps. I just like to see people's opinions. :D

For December, please consider including a way to toggle off this item in Windows Media Player:

"Allow Internet sites to uniquely identify your Player."

It's my understanding that not everyone may want their WMP usage tracked.

it is my understanding this setting is disabled by default anyway well on all system i ever installed it is.

HOSTS file with ad blocking, I can send you the one I've created from various sources. It blocks 99.9% of the ads I see (or don't see ;))

Codec pack is a must, I think.

I'm still lookin' into the Codec packs... but I do say... that Host file sounds lovely, may I take a look at it? :D

/o just overwrites oem files. In other words, you need to use the switch to overwrite custom files you've made. When i installed sp1, i had to use -o for sp1 since i had a custom ntoskrnl.exe. Other than that file, there was no other reason to use -o or /o. But hey it doesn't hurt anything so if you want to use it go for it.

it does speed up installation because it doesnt have to scan for OEM files it just overwrites all files found, maybe if you dont want to include it for all the type1 hotfixes how about having it for a option next to the "Save Backup Information" option

i would recommend the Windows Media Player 9 Codec pack for sure but i would second your request for the codec pack becuase on 9/10 systems i install i find myself installing a codec pack or get called back to install one.

The Hosts file is a definate go and could be updated every update to reflect changes to your hosts file.

Hmmm... that's a tough one. I'll research it and test it some. If it causes no problems, and it does really speed things up, I'll probably do it. I would love to make it a check box, but I'm feeling lazy right now... and that would mean I'd have to redo the entire database again. haha But seriously, I'll look into it cause I'd never heard of it before.

the /o switch is used by windows update to install type 1 hotfixes as well just out of curiosity thought you would want to know, that is reason windows update hotfixes are installed in 10 minutes :) and using a batchfile to install them takes 30 mins :(

like you said you will research and am sure you will find this is true.

I would love the option to replace windows notepad with metapad. It is a very small file but it is a pain to do manually because of Windows File Protection.

Why bother replacing Notepad and there is Wordpad? :rofl:

Well, I just did some reading, and I can't find any problems with it, but I'll test it out first myself (I'll time it too, see how much of a time difference it is). Thanks for the suggestion. :)

@OptiPlex - I like the idea of a codec pack, not sure which one yet (lots of different opinions = lots of researching for me). ;) Really can't wait to check out that HOSTS file though!

Well I've been locked out of my forum account so only now did I see your warning, I must say I would be very sad if I really need to take my Military Rank of display I'm really prowed of it but it's your forum, so if you don't like it I'll take it out.

Side note: still i can't see what's wrong with ass, everybody i know has one.

It looks like have suggested the same that I did so does that mean it will get done (hoping it will)?

Replacing notepad with metapad, I like the idea :) it's extremely useful and i think 90KB aren't too much bloat.

About Codec Packs I suggest you pick one that only offers essential playback support, so encoding (with the possible exception of mp3) just playback and the smallest number of codecs for that.

Just remember no point in an army of tools if one can do the job ;)

Many New windows updates are available, as well as MSN Messenger 6.1.0202 just been released.

also there are updates for frontpage server extensions and IIS i thinks, these should be included as they are components on windows xp which some users may have running.

good to hear these updates come out very fast and i think maybe releaseing the latest update to AutoPatcher around 12/13 of month will catch microsofts new monthly update plan and most updates for that month.
