mipra, that damn right :D i assume jason wont forget old stuff in there... if everything turns out as planned, december released will be the fastest, neatest, greatest (hehe, if not, what else!?) release of AutoPatcher yet :D

I believe TDI will help many of you customizers :D, and Im sure you will appreciate all the minor new stuff we added...

well... most of those mean "Install Silently" for different hotfixes/programs...

/Raptor

 this is not enough

please please can you explain each parameter ?? or a link ??

ahah look here is suggestion: you may add a file explaining each parameter ? ;)

thanks

well... i was never involved in windows update switches, so i suppose Jason will be able to explain them a little... however, you can always look over at Microsoft KnowledgeBase... just bring up the page for any specific update you are looking for, and it will list all switches, and what each one of them does

Every program comes with different switches installed that will do different things. Microsoft Windows Hotfixes, for example have these:

/? Display the list of installation switches.
/u Unattended mode.
/f Force other programs to quit when the computer shuts down.
/n Do not back up files for removal.
/o Overwrite OEM files without prompting.
/z Do not restart when installation is complete.
/q Quiet mode (no user interaction).
/l List installed hotfixes.
/x Extracts the files without running Setup.

But Internet Explorer updates have these

/q ? ? ?Specifies quiet mode, or suppresses prompts.
/q:u ? ?Specifies user-quiet mode, which presents some dialog boxes to the user.
/q:a ? ?Specifies administrator-quiet mode.
/t:path Specifies the target folder for extracting files.
/c ? ? ?Extracts the files without installing them.
/c:path Specifies the UNC path and name of the Setup .inf or .exe file.
/r:n ? ?Never restarts the computer after installation.
/r:i ? ?Prompts the user to restart the computer if a restart is required.
/r:a ? ?Always restarts the computer after installation.
/r:s ? ?Restarts the computer after installation without prompting the user.
/n:v ? ?No version checking - Install the package over any previous version.

As you can see, they're very different. Every program has a different set of switches. It would take a very long time for me to post every one, most can be found just by looking it up on Google or :)e programs site. :)

just wondering if Microsofts regclean 4.1a would be any good for this system, it hasn't been updated in a while but for those who want to stick to microsoft only progs for new systems going out to customers it does a half decent job and i'm assuming its better than nothing, i mean ideally i would like Norton Windoctor included but we all know thats "piracy". does anyone know of any windows xp compatibility issues with regclean it just says win95 or higher in the readme.

Post a direct link to it and I'll download it and test it. :)

RegClean 4.1a is *NOT* for Windows XP. It is only intended for Win95/98/Me.

I wish only the critical updates were selected automatically by AP. It's a pain to de-select the Bonus stuff and the PowerToys. I want to build them clean. It makes more sense to me to select all the updates automatically and let the user choose which other things they want. And why are both Java's selected by default (MS and Sun?) Can't you just use one or the other? I always disable SUN, and keep the MS. I don't understand why they are both selected by default.

Also, another suggestion for a reg tweak:

Problem: How can I increase performance with Windows XP?

Possible Solution: Disable Kernal paging using the following regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\SESSION MANAGER\Memory Management.

Click on the Memory Management folder and right-click the LargeSystemCache entry. Select Modify, and type 1 in the Value Data field.

If you have 512MB or more of RAM, you should also locate the DisablePagingExecutive entry and ensure it is set to 1 as well. (This setting keeps as much information as possible loaded into RAM rather than to the swap file.)

@Carey934:

Thanks for the clearup on RegClean 4.1a, I hadn't downloaded it yet, and I had never used it before so I didn't know. So thank you! :)

As far as why the recommended updates and some Regtweaks are automatically selected, it's because a lot of newbies out there don't even know they exist, and I think they're all good things. If you don't like them, the first time you startup AutoPatcher just select what you'd want and hit "Save as Defaults". It will change the AutoPatcher.dat file and from then on it will have your defaults instead of mine. Easy fix. :) Oh, and the reason I have both javas selected is because if I select neither, some people won't know to choose one. Others can pick their preference. I know there's no harm in installing both, so that's why I have them both checked. :)

@FlishFun: What values in the database determine that the [Entry] is a category or item? Thanks in advance.

Catagories do not have a Target, TargetNoBackup, or Website. Items do. That's all really. :) If you want more info (or wanna just talk via IM), let me know. :D

Thanks. I'll detect based on the presence of Target. :)

is it possible to let the autopatcher detect what updates are necesarry on the pc and then selects them from the list?

that way u only install the needed updates :p (somewhat like WU yes....but this time u allready have the patches 'n stuff :p)

(dunno if some1 allready suggested it...havn't read all the 30 pages of this topic...4give me :p)

is this an idea or just plain stupid?

memodude, im doing a simple DBE too :D However... are you coding this in VB? If so... maybe i could give you the original source code to read/write to and from database files... that way you wont have any weird problem with some database files...

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
    • Being on Github makes it more trustable since I can see the code at any point.
    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
