Microsoft registers multiple domains with the name 'Xbox Fusion'

Microsoft has apparently registered multiple domain names with the words "Xbox Fusion." Aside from XboxFusion.com, Microsoft has snagged XboxFusion.de, XboxFusion.info, XboxFusion.biz, XboxFusion.co.uk and more. Could this be the name of the next gen console?

Having "fusion" in its name makes perfect sense to us, since Microsoft has been working hard to 'fuse' together all sorts of entertainment experiences into one entertainment console. The new Xbox is rumored to feature the ability to utilize your TV cable box, similar to what Google does with its Google TV service. This new Xbox is part of Microsoft's effort in providing a single entertainment and media service source.

The Xbox team is planning on announcing the next generation Xbox console on May 21st. After that, Microsoft is expected to completely reveal its plans for the next generation Xbox on the eve of the E3 entertainment expo in early June 2013. The new Xbox is rumored to feature a Blu-ray drive and a new Kinect alongside the Xbox console.

I don't know if it'll be the name of the console itself, the people who seem to be in the know say it'll just be Xbox, like Apple has done with the iPad instead of iPad 3. Either this is the name of the console or the name of a new Xbox service that we'll be getting.

uh... what?

Hmmm?

Seems a bit late coming up with a name under a month away from showing the thing.

Sounds more like a service to me. Could have something to do with teh cloud / gaming.

Then what would be the name? Or no name, like the iPad?

Kind of like it myself; I thought Infinity sounded stupid personally. That's a name a first grader might come up with.

I'll just be glad when they finally do name it so people will stop with the 720 crap. Makes me want to punch someone when they call it that.

Fusion. Sounds kinda.... idk... Like a name a bunch of teenagers would come up with if you put them in a room and asked them to name it. It would probably be "FuZioN!" in graffiti font, though.

basically anything is better than "xbox 720". not sure how that ever caught on.

360 + 360 = 720

If you hate it so much, why don't you just do a 720 and come at me bro!

I hope this is for the TV box. I think I liked XBOX? better.

I guess Fusion makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

Infinity was sexier, but I could definitely see some legal issues with Comcast Xfinity.

Too many syllables. :)

360 + 360 = 720

The problem is for a name that's stupid. Basically 360 means revolution, what does 720 mean? Nothing. By that logic should the PS4 be called the PS6 instead? PS3+PS3=PS6. Windows 8 should have been Windows 14 I guess. It was an idiotic idea and it's not going to happen, time to let it go.

To be fair, nothing makes sense for the 360 successor name until Microsoft names it themselves. I fail to see how the name "720" is any worse than the other code names Microsoft has come up with over the years (or even actual release names for that matter). At least from a gamer standpoint of someone who might have enjoyed the hell out of Tony Hawk games growing up, 720 still makes sense being another full rotation. If you want to get all mathy about it, chances are you're thinking way too hard on something that's completely irrelevant anyway. :ermm:

We could have called it Delta after all.

I like the name Fusion but they really need to stick to some standardization.

Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox Fusion, Xbox <insert-something-else>

there's no logical progression.

Also, in a way, kind of hate the way all these bits of info come out - leaving no 'mystery' ...now it's 'yeah, well, it'll most likely be called fusion' </grumpy>

Yeah it's the battle Nintendo/MS will face each gen, thinking of a name. Wii U is atrocious. Sony made it safe and easy on themselves, and quite literally even the 'dumbest' of consumers know how to differentiate old from new. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

Infinity reminds me of a car, fusion sounds more like a service and/or energy drink. I think MS might be playing on the idea of 'fusing' though, like fusing media/games/TV into one box.

It's not bad, though I also preferred the Infinity name that was rumored like others mentioned though Fusion isn't that bad and somewhat makes sense with what they seem to be wanting to do with it. Once they start marketing it then it won't matter at all anymore and everyone will get used to it (much like they did with the Wii). Though it's clearly evident someone at MS likes American cars :p

PSP, PSP Go, PS Vita...Sony is in the same mess.

You don't have to worry about "Infinity". :p
