just need a quick answer and i posted it in customizing windows since i am 95% sure it has to do with it the uxthheme.dll patch to theme so i figured this was where i could get the most accurate, speedy response...

since i have applied the uxtheme.dll patch (i just reformated on monday so since then i had it before) i keep getting the following two windows (show in sequence, the 2nd window is after i click Cancel on the 1st window) every time i start up. when i first applied the patch i got all of the dialogs you have modified a system file etc and thought i clicked the rigth things 9something along the lines of do not show me this again i believe) but lo and behold i keep geting it on every restart. so with that long explanation very short question. how do i stop these windows from popping up?

thanks in advanced

for xp original edition ,the method upstairs works.

but for xp integrated with sp1,

you could find this at winguides network

Windows XP

Make a backup the SFC_OS.DLL in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory.

Make an additional copy of SFC_OS.DLL called SFC_OS1.DLL and open it in a hex editor.

Windows XP (no Service Pack)

At offset 0000E2B8 (0E2B8h) you should find the values "8B" and "C6".

Windows XP (Service Pack 1)

At offset 0000E3BB (0E3BBh) you should find the values "8B" and "C6".

Do not continue if you are unable to find these values.

Change the values "8B C6" to read "90 90" and save the changes.

Run these commands to update the system files:

copy c:\windows\system32\sfc_os1.dll c:\windows\system32\sfc_os.dll /y

copy c:\windows\system32\sfc_os1.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache\sfc_os.dll /y

If you are prompted to insert the Windows CD, click Cancel.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Once these files have been updated apply the registry setting above.

Note: You must manually modify the operating system files using a hex editor to allow this tweak to disable SFC on Windows 2000 (SP1+) or Windows XP.

hey,the buddie upstairs ,are u chinese?

copy the hacked uxtheme.dll to the dllcache folder as well. xp is checking the hacked against the backup in dllcache and notices that it doesn't match so you keep getting that prompt. once you have that hack in that folder, it won't know any better. ;)

dllcache folder is hidden so be sure to show hidden folders

not sure why anyone would want to modify the registry, turn off WFP or do any fancy hacks when the answer is this simple

How do you turn off the darn WFP ? It is set as defualt somewhere. But, if one can turn off please tell us how to.

Thanks.

1. It should be in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes, not C:\WINDOWS\Resources.

2. It's called Luna.theme, not Windows XP.theme.

3. Here you go.

4. This is a theme file, a visual style is .msstyles.

5. Note: if you are missing the Luna theme (in the Appearance tab of Display Properties), PM me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail you Luna.

Luna.theme

Hmm. Okay, ignore my last post. I wasn't missing any files... When I went to Properties, in the Display Properties, the Windows XP default style was not listed (btw, good guess as to the real nature of my problem, MemoDude).

If anyone ever has this problem, check your Computer Management in the Administrative Tools. Go to Services and check that Themes is enabled. Mine was disabled, re-enabling it returned things to normal.
