I am wanting to backup my personal photo collection to the cloud, the collection is upwards of 50GB or so. I am unsure which solution may be best, at the moment I am considering SkyDrive as the storage purchase options seem reasonable and I am already using it for other things.

I only have a few requirements: Full-resolution images, no storage limits (will pay to get more room), private (not interested in social sharing) and I will pay if needed. I am not interested in accessing these images frequently, I just want another backup in case my others fail.

Does anyone have an alternative to SkyDrive they would recommend?

Dropbox is the most popular cloud storage service. A lot of people currently use Dropbox, which makes file sharing a lot easier if others already use it. Make sure you protect your cloud storage through the method of encryption! If you upload all of your personal files onto the cloud, while extremely convenient and efficient, they still face the risk of being hacked. A lot of services today can protect your cloud storage. One of my personal favorites is nCrypted Cloud. nCrypted Cloud acts as a layer on top of Dropbox and gives you many options that allow you to securely share, trusted share, make files private, and audit all activity within your cloud. nCrypted Cloud follows the same encryption standards at banks so you know your privacy and security is fully protected! Hope this helps!

Glad that your looking at backup for personal photos, in my case its more videos of my grand daughter.  These are irreplaceable so yes backup or lets call it disaster recovery has to be robust.

So I have copies on 2 systems at home, my pc and my nas - where there are 2 copies on the nas on different physical drives as well

I then backup these files to my webhost, since they are private "backups" I have 50GB of space for this use - if was going to make them accessable via website then it would be unlimited.  I am at the point where I will either have to pay for space or move them to normal website storage.

I then also make copies to optical that have a copy of and also copy at my son's house - worse case if fire at my house or tornado took it to oz, son's copy should still be there and online copy.

I also have another copy in lower quality on website used to stream these video's to family members.

You can never have too many copies(backups) of such files..  You may want to look into multiple storage locations online if your not going to do optical or hdd copy in multiple locations on your own.  flickr might be fine for photo's but video storage seemed to be a pain - I might look at it again.

Google Drive has a great interface for organizing, viewing, and searching your photos. Plus, it's really easy to share your photos securely between many people with differing levels of access using your Google Plus Circles. Google Drive also can be integrated with File Explorer on Windows, just like SkyDrive.

    • Sound Booster 1.13 Build 575 by Razvan Serea Increase volume on your laptop. Boost the volume of even very quiet speakers. Raise volume above maximum. Letasoft Sound Booster can be used as an extra amplifier when the volume of the program you are listening to is too low for comfortable listening and you feel that your PC’s speakers can produce a louder sound. This can be the case when the audio or video has been recorded at the level below normal. Or, for example, when the other person’s microphone you are talking to on Skype, is not working properly. There can be a plenty of other reasons why the sound is being too quiet and there is not much you can do about it except buy external speakers. Sound of any application that is being played in the system can be amplified up to 500%. Letasoft Sound Booster can raise volume of programs like web browsers, on-line communication software (Teams, Discord, Zoom), any kind of media player or games. Simply put, volume of virtually any program that can play any sound in PC, can be boosted to a comfortable level with Letasoft Sound Booster. You can control current volume with the pop-up slider from the system tray. Alternatively, you can assign system-wide hot keys for increasing and decreasing, and use them when you need to adjust volume Letasoft Sound Booster constantly monitors current gain level and prevents samples from clipping, thus reducing all major sound distortions. • I own these and the normal QuietComfort ones from Bose. The QC are amazing and I want to love these, but for the life of me, I have a terrible time getting them attached to my ears.
    • Thanks for the tip. I am giving it a try. Initial quick impression: I like it.
