Seagate Expansion 1TB External Hard Disk issue, please help me!

Recommended Posts

The drive fell from 1.5 FT, as already stated this most likely damaged something in the case (circuit board that converts your sata/pata connection to USB) or the drive itself is damaged.

As already suggested - take the drive OUT and directly connect it to your computer via its sata or pata connection. Or use another USB to drive cable.. They are fairly cheap around $20 or so here in the the US, and can be ordered from any online shop if you don't have a place to buy one.

If the drive works when directly connected to your machine or via a usb drive cable..

Then you could just buy a replacement case for it... Or just use it internal, etc. If does not work when directly connected to your computer or via another usb cable like above - then it was most likely damaged in the fall. I doubt warranty covers dropping them.. So you might just be out of luck, you could contact them and ask if warranty covers you dropping it from 1.5 feet. Good luck with that ;)

What do I do to the PCB?

Did you initialize the drive? Go to Disk settings, see if it is there.

Where?

"What do I do to the PCB?"

What?? You don't do anything with the circuit board in the case (PCB - Printed Circuit Board).. It was most likely damaged in the fall.

I think there is a bit of language barrier so far in this thread. You have been told MULTIPLE times to open up the case and take the drive out and connect it to your PC directly.. I don't know how else to explain this too you. I would suggest you have a friend that understands english better read this thread and translate for you.

I am sorry for understanding after a lot of time...I don't know much about the hard drive technologies :) . I'll ask a technician to connect it to the CPU. I'll ask later if I have any query. :)

Go easy on him Bud, he's 15 and his English is better than some other people on this forum.

P.S. How's your Tamil?

Lol! Thank you very much for the compliment :)...by the way, I am fluent in Telugu, don't know much Tamil. :p

I wasn't meaning to be hard on him, just stating what I saw as an issue with the discussion. His english is much better than my any other language on the planet..

Just that it seemed there was something being loss in the translation - be it lack of understanding of the technical terms, etc.

I have nothing but the greatest of respect for anyone that even can converse at basic level in multiple languages.. I can ask for the bathroom or a beer in spanish and german and french.. But thats about it ;)

Technical terms can be the hardest between languages, I tried to be basic in my description of what needed to be done. Along with spelling out the PCB acronym being used, etc.

Not sure how to say take the hard drive out of the case and directly connect it to your computer any simpler?

<snipped per OP request>

To enlighten you OP, here is a video on how to do what everyone is suggesting (take the HDD out of the black case and then connect that HDD internally) .

Its quite simple and dont be scared. Last night I took apart my Seagate GoFlex 750GB drive, so I could use it as a hot swap.

I am back, with a new problem. I took out the hard drive from the casing, tried to connect it internally, but the hard drive was the same as it was before externally. What do I do?

You're SOL. Warrenty doesn't cover physically dammaged components. And you scratched the platters of your HDD.

BTW. Seagate sucks. Lost 1.5 TB of crucial data because the damn thing didn't want to work a week after buying, and seagate wouldn't do anything about it.

Seagate. A company to stay away from.

I had a Western Digital 1.5TB that I broke the SATA/Power connectors off. I sent in a RMA, and they just gave me a new drive. :)

    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
    • Gotta' buy that there Rufus guy a beer if I ever meet him. He makes good stuff.
