M_Lyons10
Hi everyone. I am going to be getting a Lumia 928 and wanted to get a wireless charger. My only problem is that I don't really like the Nokia wireless chargers... I much prefer the style that held the phone up like the old Palm chargers... So, I was wondering if 1, I could use any other wireless charger, and 2, which one everyone would recommend for the Lumia 928... Also, is there anything I should keep in mind or know about getting a different wireless charger? Thanks for the help. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1153668-lumia-928-wireless-charger-question/ Share on other sites
vcfan
whats wrong with this type? works with the 928. btw the palm chargers wont charge the phones. the phone might give you the charging symbol, but apparently they run at different frequencies so theyre incompatible. M_Lyons10
Thanks, that looks like just what I wanted. I will check it out. :) And thanks for the heads up on the Palm chargers. I wasn't sure if they would work or not, but wanted to give them as an example as that was the design I would like. Martog
Any wireless charger that uses the Qi standard for wireless charging will work. A lot of the current wireless chargers are Qi compatible. vcfan
Any wireless charger that uses the Qi standard for wireless charging will work. A lot of the current wireless chargers are Qi compatible. there are plenty of problems with using different wireless chargers with different phones. it doesn't matter if they are all Qi compatible or not. some phones will simply keep switching from charging to not quickly, which ends up charging the phone really really slowly. some phones will stop charging randomly, or not charge at all even though they show they are charging. Are they not following the Qi standard or is the Qi standard not that thoroughly laid out..? I'd think being a standard this should not happen but you know xD Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1153668-lumia-928-wireless-charger-question/#findComment-595715258 Share on other sites

I'd think being a standard this should not happen but you know xD don't know. check out this test for example using a nokia charger on an android phone There has been much talk on the Web about using the DT-910 with Qi-enabled Android phones. In principle, it should work with all devices that comply with the Qi standard. I put it to the test with my new Nexus 4. While the DT-910 charged the Nexus 4, it did so very slowly because, as many others have noted, the two devices continuously disconnect and reconnect. http://allaboutwindo...ss_Charging.php ive also seen around the web some problems with different chargers and phones. maybe its an alignment issue with the inductors. I wonder if the stand is harder to get working due to the way it has to sit on the stand, and then the coils not lining up. The plates and fatboy seem a little better for non-Nokia phones I would imagine. I ended up ordering a fatboy pillow, I like the look of it better than plate. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1153668-lumia-928-wireless-charger-question/#findComment-595715284 Share on other sites
M_Lyons10
Very interesting. Thanks for all the help. I think I'm going to get that stand that was suggested above. Martog
I ended buying a fatboy from ATT for $55 and bought a charging plate for $25. I got the fatboy today, so nice to just set the phone down onto it. I picked mine up for $25. Keep an eye on bargain sites, or just pick up a Qi-compatable charger off monoprice. game_over
the phone is not plugged into anything its just sitting on a stand, any wireless charger will have a cable Sound gimmicky, the only convenience is not needing to pull a cable out of the phone which isn't even an inconvenience, i would imagine wireless charging to be like a wireless signal, a small hub that transmits signal that charges a phone if it's in range of X amount of metres or whatever (not sure if that's at all possible it's just how i imagined it would be) so that the phone could be like in my pocket or in a random place and still charge. That being said, that is a nice stand and a nice alternative i suppose.
