Mockingbird
So my mother were copying 10 discs (all of them clean with windex). Now everything I copy anything, nero always so "unrecoverable read error at...". It doesn't matter how good the disc is. xendrome
Try a different program, like Burn Aware Free, and try a different type/brand of media? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1154510-is-my-dvd-burner-toast/#findComment-595712300 Share on other sites
Mockingbird
Try a different program, like Burn Aware Free, and try a different type/brand of media? I don't even get to that part. It shows disc error just by reading the original disc. I already test discs I know are perfect and it still show read error. FiB3R
Try taking the drive apart and cleaning the lens. Also.... windex, not sure that's a good idea. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1154510-is-my-dvd-burner-toast/#findComment-595712318 Share on other sites

xendrome
Oh so it's just reading the disc, try to image it in a different system? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1154510-is-my-dvd-burner-toast/#findComment-595712330 Share on other sites
FiB3R
Replace the drive just to be safe taking it apart to clean it voids warranty 1: It's broken, **** the warranty (that I'm pretty sure has long past) 2: If you buy a new one, you'll be throwing it in the bin anyway. I can't tell you how many peoples Xbox's I've "repaired", just by cleaning the lens. Shadrack
Windex is an intense solvent! Don't use windex to clean CDs. That's a terrible idea. All you should ever need is a little water and a microfiber cloth. At most reduce IPA down to ~20-30% with distilled water and use that. IPA at 70+% (as it is sold) is also terrible to use without reduce with water on just about anything. Windex is for cleaning glass. Mockingbird
Try taking the drive apart and cleaning the lens. Also.... windex, not sure that's a good idea. Thank you so much for that advice. There was a strand of hair that was stuck on the lens. Robbie Ride
The CD's are toast not the drive. Who cleans discs with Windex that's a sure why to destroy the data on the discs, you'd might as well just snap the discs and be done with it lol. Think that's an epic FAIL!
