The highly-anticipated historical drama 'The White Queen' from the BBC will be airing in the USA on Starz. Hoping to capture some of the same success of another BBC import 'Downton Abbey' over on PBS, Starz has revealed the premiere date for the first episode of the opcoming historical epic.

The series will debut on Saturday, August 10.

The 10-episode drama, based on the bestselling historical novels by Philippa Gregory, is set against the backdrop of England?s Wars of the Roses. The series stars Max Irons, Amanda Hale, James Frain, newcomers Rebecca Ferguson and Faye Marsay and Oscar nominee Janet McTeer.

Producers acquired the rights to Phillippa Gregory's book series, on which 'The White Queen' is based, back in September of 2012. This period drama is set during England's War of the Roses with former HBO Films president Colin Callender is attached to ?The White Queen? as an Executive Producer. ?The White Queen? adapts the first three novels in Gregory?s ?The Cousins War? series, an historical drama set during England?s War of the Roses. The war raged across a thirty-year span during the 1400?s between the rival houses of Lancaster and York, whose heraldic insignias were red & white roses, respectively.

The plot of the novels follows Elizabeth Woodville of the House of Lancaster, widowed after her valiant husband is slain in battle. The seduction of the reigning King (of the rival house) begins?murder and underhanded deals are sure to follow.
